He certainly can but I think this is all based on the expectation that we bounce back straight away. A few seasons in the CCL will kill us.
Let's just hope we can do a Newcastle then - down, up as clear champs, mid table, lower top table in four seasons...
QPR chief executive Philip Beard believes the club remain on course to achieve their long-term ambitions under Tony Fernandes – even if they are relegated. Rangers sit two points above the drop zone with just four matches left, and face a must-win encounter against Tottenham Hotspur at Loftus Road on Saturday. But, despite their difficulties on the pitch, progress continues to be made, with negotiations to secure a new training ground at Warren Farm in Southall well under way, That comes after the club’s centre of excellence last week relocated to improved premises in East Acton, and Beard insists the long-term strategy remains in place. The Rs supremo has also handed his backing to manager Mark Hughes, who he believes has a crucial role to play over the coming years. “It is a roller-coaster ride of a season and no-one knows what will end up happening,” Beard told London24.com. “But it would be fantastic for everybody at the club, particularly the fans, if we can stay up. “If we don’t then we will re-group, dust ourselves down and start again. What I have tried to say is that the impact of what happens this season does not slow down what happens with regards to the stability of the club – and that includes building a new training facility. “With regards to that facility, we’ve got several options, including a really favoured option, and we’re getting close to what we want to do. We’ll know by the end of the season. “It’s important right across the club, not just for the first team but for the youth teams as well. We want to start growing our own talent and I think a new training ground will help us to do that. “Like everybody at the club, I don’t want to have one season in the Premier League after they worked so hard to get there. But it is a fact of life that three clubs will go down this season, and we’re in the mix of four or five clubs in that situation. “I have enormous respect for Mark Hughes. We have put the right person in at the club and I hope we have a long relationship with him. I’d like to think he’ll help us build the future of the club over the next few years.” After eight months at Loftus Road, Beard admits he has developed a bond with QPR, and believes Rangers owe it to their fan-base to drag themselves clear of the relegation zone. “I have a real affinity with the loyal fans. I have been a sports fan and a football fan all my life and I have seen how important the club is to the fans,” he added. “More than 2,000 people went to West Bromwich Albion on Saturday, travelling up there by whatever means they could, and were more vocal than the home fans. “After that result they were probably feeling bruised and disappointed over the weekend. I share that, as does everybody at the club. “It would be fantastic for the fans if we can get the necessary points to keep us in the Premier League.” Follow me on Twitter @QPRTimes
A-hum, were not down yet lads. In fact we're still more up than down as it stands. Sod being stood next you lot in the trenches.
We got rid of Warnock because relegation would have been disastrous according to TF. Change of tune when his choice turns out to be sh*te.
Fair point Clonmany, but I'd say Hughes is a full season manager than a halfway kinda manager. This shall be proven next season when we finish 9-12th in the Prem.
Reckon you need another look at the table and the run-in games Nines. Looks like a stroll into machine-gun fire to me! Only hope is that Villa keep under-performing and we take a point more than they end up with...
Well said mate. Nines, we're in the sh*ts and if you can't see that then there's summat wrong wi' you pal.
Never ever ever ever give up. What ever life throws at you, as long as you have breath in your body, you should never lay down and die!
No one's given up hope Nines. The owners and dah management are just reitterating their commitment in the face of the increasingly inevitable. I'd get your 'chute ready if I were you. Separating yourself from the wreckage can be a messy business (as I'm sure you'd know only too well!).
I hear you mate. Some people are born to die and some are born to live. I hate words like don't, can't, won't, should not, no etc etc. Problems can be solved. Really don't understand the negative attitude of some people.
Negative begets negative NUTS. The team choked at West Brom in the 'must win' game of 'must win' games. WBA were there for the taking and we lacked the oomph to take the necessary points. Consequently how much of your hard earned would you stake on our survival at this point? Nowt wrong with our owners and management rolling out Plan B. Whilst we may yet survive, I see that as a positive in terms of reassuring the fans of their ongoing commitment to a stable future.
I too cling to the hope that we survive in the PL this season and can really kick on My biggest concern about relegation is the number of players that may leave that we actually want to keep. Sure many of them are saying now that they'll stay, but will they, particularly if other PL teams want them? Experience has taught us this year that having to integrate a large number of players in a short space of time is very difficult. One of our real strengths at the start of the 10/11 season was having a pretty stable squad The Championship is such a tight league, and being marooned in there for years is a rather depressing thought! Particularly as at some stage our owners will need to recognise financial reality
Nine, you are dead right! We must not give up! We must go for all 12 points and us supporters must cheer until long after the Citeh game. If we win Saturday and the opposition loses suddenly we'll be looking like we have a half realistic chance, and then we, MH, and the players must keep it going, away from home as well this time! Bolton have to play a lot of games in a short time, chelsea will be tired whem they meet us, and have injury problems in defense, Villa are playing cr*p, and Wigan's good form will crumble soon. So we got to win our games and make the others pay for their failings. Comeon URRRRRR's. I'm coming over this weekend, and am really up for this one!
