Just been reading about some of the transfer's this summer, the likes of Alba who is going to be one of the best left backs in a couple of years going to Barca for 9m, Kagawa who was very impressive at Dortmund going to Man Utd for 12m and Cazorla who when I seen him the odd time for Malaga looked outstanding going to Arsenal for 15m then we have the ridiculous prices over here of Allen for 15m, Wolves turning down 8m for Jarvis and 12m for Fletcher the premier league has gone nuts and I personally think more clubs hopefully us included will shop abroad.

As it has been proven at national level England and the other British sides are years and years behind the other top nations in terms of quality on the ball, composure, awareness etc. so why are average british plodder going for ridiculous prices? Even in the Olympics Mexico and South Korea had a couple of canny players who would be cheap and worth a gamble.

I posted on not606 a few weeks ago about Valencia signing Sergio Canales (1 of the hottest prospects in Spain), Fernando Gago (played at the top for Madrid and played 30odd games for Roma last season), Joao Perreira (was class for Portugal at the euros at RB) and Andreas Guardado (a very tricky winger with bags of pace) all for less than 4m each!!! I aint saying we should of gone for them, that is not the point as no player in there right mind would choose Sunderland over Valencia but it does show that over there there is quality available at low prices, every single 1 of them cost less than Gardner and what does he offer?

I wonder why a club like ours instead of going for ordinary players is not ambitious and looks at the top clubs, Real Madrid have Granero, Barca have Keita, those lads play 4 or 5games a season, who says they would not want to come and be a major part of an ambitious team wanting to do well in the best league in the world, its not like there plodders, they would walk into our side, Afellay on loan? These players might not want to come but as I have said they would be guaranteed games in the best league in the world even if it was a move to show what they have to get a better move then short term it would be great for the club. What about the stand out players at the lower teams who will be on lower wages and thats just the Spanish league, what about the French, Dutch, German, Turkish, Russain and Portuguese league's?

The thing all these players would bring to us is better technical ability, they would bring a touch of class, I aint saying fill our 25man squad up of foreigners you need a bit of a balance but we should be going down this route like Newcastle have.

Unfortunately I don't see SAFC as being an ambitious club if we are seriously after the likes of Scott Dann for 5.7m!!! 5.7m it just proves what I have been saying about plodders being over valued, lets be ambitious and get out there and get some quality at value for money because there aint any in the premier league now.

Thing is mate the first few you mentioned went to the top teams in the world possibly so we will have had no chance whatsoever of them. Agree though for what British teams are asking for in my opinion very average players we should be looking at overseas players. Fletcher 12mil plus, Dann 6mil these will be priced out of moves by their clubs who in turn will suffer with under par performances.

2 players who have cost us 17m, we probably could of found 2players across europe who would of done just as well if not better than these two for 6m who also would of probably cost less in wages as well.

I would love to ask a manager of a premier league club why clubs do not get a top class scouting network up and running and go this route.

Look at the top Portuguese sides the likes of Benfica and Porto, the amount of South American's with potential they bring over for peanuts is offit, most of them might not work out but the ones that do, Benifica have had David Luiz, Ramires and Di Maria, now they have Gaitan, all who arrived for peanuts, improved them drastically and were sold on for a fortune. Porto have had Lizandro and Falcao, both who cost them less than 6m and bother who went for over 50m, they now have a lad called James Rodriguez and Man Utd had a bid rejected for 20odd million, there left back Perreira will cost around 20m and these guys were signed for nowt!

why don't English clubs do this?

No way on gods earth is Abdellouae going for £3million, that is paper fantasist bullshit.

Keita, BTW, left Barca for China, I believe.

What happened wit Ricky the Wolf? I bet £12million would get him.

It would also get Luke De Jong, who remains at Twente, or Kevin Gameiro, who is supposedly desperate to leave PSG, and that was BEFORE they signed Ibra.

Tell Wolves to go get ****ed, and they'll sharp come back and accept £10million rising to £12million.

Yes agreed our scouting seems very poor. Newcastle have a 'super scout' in Alan Carr's dad. Maybe we should give Graham Norton's dad a call and asks him if he fancies a scouting job. It's unorthodox but we can't end up with any worse than the likes of Elmohamady and Wickham.

Because of the stupid work permit rule, we never get up and coming south americans because they need to have played 75% of their countries internationals (or something like that anyway) so we can get he ones that are already established, but not the 15 year old Messi type wonderkids. or even the average plodder who lets be honest, would probably help us.

there you go its bloody daft, I hate football management games where it has it in, or I always go with barca just for this reason, its bloody infuriating, but it is just like in real life.

I don't want to be 'that' lad, but we already do...

    Krul: £0.7m
    Tiote: £3.5m
    Cabaye: £4.5m
    Santon: £4m
Ben Arfa: £2m (if you believe the journos - I still think that's insane)
    Marveaux: Free
    Amalifitano: Free
    Ba: Free
    Cisse: £9m

    Compared to:

    Carroll: £35m
    Henderson: £18m
    Downing: £16m
    Adam: £7m
    Whickam: £13m

We missed out on De Jong and look like we'll miss out on Debuchy, but its because our owner (for all of his faults) is a top business man, and refuses to be forced into overpaying, that's why we pretty much leave the UK market alone.

Rumours saying we're going for Loic Remy for £12m, Vernon Anita for £6m and Douglas for £4m (Marseille, Ajax and FC Twente) so we'll see what happens, but we've been proof that any Premiership side can and really should have the scouts out there to pick up plenty of bargains!

Better off paying more in Holland though. Cheap ones are dangerous, in Amsterdam anyway.

I went (got dragged) to a cheap show called the blue banana club or something. Haven't recovered since and that was four years ago.

My point is though, and im not taling about chicken farmers or fruit pickers here (low labour jobs).

I am taling about kids who show great potential, lie a neymar, or a messi, who we cant touch, not just Sunderland but any of us, unless they have played 75% of their internationals over the past 2 years, by that time they are already well know and the big clubs are in for them for big money, or they have already gone to barca etc as a kid so we cant touch them.

We can buy them but they cant play for us, remember alex, Chelsea signed him, no work permit so he had to play in Holland i think it was for 3 years, even though it was Chelseas player.

I am also taling bout those that play in the top divisions, so for santos, vasco etc etc not 2nd division players, so those that could do a job here, ok not all of them, but then some very good plyers may never gt an international cap never mind 75%.

I just think we as in England/PL has missed out big time over the years by not being able to get the ronaldo`s, ronaldhinos, neymar, messi`s etc etc at a young age or at least before they made it big on the international stage.

This is area mainland europe have one up on us, we just cant compete as its against the bleeding law to do so.

How can Oscar play for Chelsea then? He's only played a few games for Brasil hasn't he? Can you get special dispensation?
