With the Swans becoming the first Welsh team to win promotion to the Premier League, do you expect the Swans to pick up this award? Or has Wales' performance in the Rugby World Cup given BBC Wales the opportunity of ignoring Swansea's achievement?
It's a much easier decision to make, giving it to the rugby team, but I'd say the Swans achievements are more deserving. I've a sneaking feeling they'll get it.
If the swans don't get it then its a fix, welsh rugby have won nothing and if they had won the world cup then i would say maybe but Swansea came away with the playoff trophy and are the first welsh club to play in the premiership. There should be no question about it the swans has to be the team of 2011 with no other competition to speak of....
As great as the Welsh boys were, it has to be the Swans for me. First Welsh team in the PL has to be better than fourth place as unlucky as our lads were. Now if we could have reached the final.........
swansea city will be team of the year without any shadow of doubt......there is no other who comes close.....
The team of the year is the Swans no doubt about it. However, there's no way the Bluebird Broadcasting Corporation will allow us to win it in a million years. It'll either be the rugby team or possibly Cardiff girls U17 hockey team. I hope the club boycott the poxy event
Has to be the swans. As well as Wales did in the world cup. they lost 3 games out of 7. So that means they will give it to Wales then.
Sports Personality of the Year. How many teams have got promoted by winning this? None. It means nothing - so don't worry if we do or don't win it. We won our prize in May and that is all that matters
If there is any justice, as good as Wales were, it should be the Swans. In my opinion (and this might be a tad controvertial) getting promoted to the Premier League is a far bigger achievement than winning the RWC, and Wales didn't win the world cup remember. New Zealand won the RWC after playing a massive 7 games! The Swans played 49 games (46 league, 2 semi's and 1 final) in their march to the Premier League. There were no easy games in the Championship - there were plenty in the RWC. If Wales had won the RWC, it would have been a massive achievement but it would have been nowhere near as big an achievement as promotion to the PL. Remember that England made the RWC final in 2007 and they were absolutely rubbish! The RWC is a wonderful tournament but realistically there are only a handful of sides that have a hope of winning it - it is only really competitive after the group stages and, by then, you only have to win 3 matches to become world champions. Anyway, gonna barricade myself into my humble abode now and wait for the egg chasers to arrive with their flaming torches and pitchforks!
Just checked, in 2008 Wales won the Grand Slam and Cardiff lost in the FA Cup Final. BBC Wales Team of the Year 2008 - Cardiff City
dont worry its in the bag, there is no other team that even comes close....2011 team of the year SWANSEA CITY AFC..
And the winner is "Swansea City have won the team of the year honour after securing promotion to the Premier League just eight years after surviving relegation from the Football League"
