As the title says the BBC Sport website had a video up about Mark Lawrenson and Robbie Savage picking their best XI to challenge the FIFA Pro XI and this is what they went for Joe Hart Pablo Zabaleta - Vincent Kompany - Nemanja Vidic - Leighton Baines Yaya Toure Steven Gerrard - - - Gareth Bale Wayne Rooney Luis Suarez - Robin Van Persie Now for me I have no problem with Zabaleta, Baines, Toure, Bale, Suarez and Van Persie being named but their is a big difference to the rest of the team for me. I would have Simon Mignolet in goals instead of Hart, the guy pulls off tremendous saves and plays very well despite not being behind a defence as sturdy as Citys Center backs were a problem, Kompany might stay in but has certainly lost the level he was at last season. Vidic doesnt warrant a place in a best team anymore as he has not played frequently enough. For me to partner Kompany is between Ryan Shawcross and Jan Vertonghen, both have been having very good seasons and on balance of the field I have gone for Vertonghen Into midfield and simply Juan Mata has been one of the best two players this season along with Van Persie, it was hard to leave out Michu as well but he hasn't had the longevity as most of the others. And Marouane Fellaini would just be out done by Toure And finally I would have put Jack Wilshere into the midfield, despite his injury problems the guy flies into the tackle and takes bump after bump. Great vision and running too, despite him being a gooner. So my team would be: Simon Mignolet Pablo Zabaleta - Vincent Kompany - Jan Vertonghen - Leighton Baines Yaya Toure - Jack Wilshere Luis Suarez - Juan Mata - Gareth Bale Robin Van Persie This would be a great attacking side with plenty of defensive cover in midfield with the ability to drive the team on from all sides of the pitch, as a Chelsea fan there is obviously no favouritism with only one player picked
Lawro still thinks Liverpool have 2 players who'd get into a Premier League 11? Bless Purely on abillity rather than form: Hart Ivanovic Kompany Vidic Baines Arteta Toure Mata Fellaini Bale RVP
Thank God Lawro and Savage will never be able to really choose a team to play. Gerrard ???????? Vidic ??????????? Rooney ????????? Any team without Mata and Hazard is a complete and utter farce.
The wierd thing about this is Lawro and Savage swooning over Mata and Hazard in their commentaries--but dont find a place in their team! Still-what do they know about football?
I can't believe the hype about Hart is still around. He's good but not one of the best (though I hope he does become one of them for England). Begovic or Cech in goal. RB Zabaleta is a good choice, but at CB I'd have a fair few people over Vidic. While he was one of, if not the best CB in his prime, I haven't seen anything to suggest that form is still there (admittedly in only the few games I've seen him recently). He's only picked on reputation imo. Since there are a lot of candidates, I'll just go with Chelsea bias and say Ivanovic. LB Cole or Baines. You could toss a coin, but Baines seems like a nicer chap so I'll say him. Yaya Toure and Wilshire in the CDMs. In the three CAMS, I'd say Mata, Bale and Suarez. Up top it's a no brainer.
I agree that after Kompany it gets really hard and is very close between the next batch of defenders, I chose Vertonghen but it could easily have been Ivanovic, Cahill, Jagielka or Shawcross, all have been excellent as of late
My best premier league XI for this season would be this; ----------------Hart-------------- Johnson---Ivanovic---Kompany---Cole ---------------.Y.Toure------------- ---------Silva-----------Mata------- Hazard--------------------------Bale ---------------Van Persie-----------
Silva? Interesting and weird choice Canine, how come if you don't mind me asking? Think he's been average for about a year now personally
And surely Canine, even as a Chelsea fan Baines has been superior this season, and if mine was on this season alone their would have to be room for one of Michu or Fellaini, like COE said, Silva has been shocking this season
Not surprising to see the Beeb's two most hated teams (Chelsea and Arsenal) unrepresented but somehow Liverpool - a midtable side - have as many players as Chelsea, Arsenal, Everton and Spurs combined For Mata to not be in there means that team lacks credibility. But both so called pundits are clueless anyway.
Liverpool would be in the Ryman league without a couple of players (apparently) If a couple of players dragged them to likely Europa spots multiple leagues above their obvious terrible quality, then those couple of players deserve some credit
This team is going on form. ----------------Mignolet--------------- Ivanovic--Shawcross-Kompany--Baines ---------------Yaya Toure-------------- ---Mata--------Fellaini---------Michu-- ----------Suarez------Van Persie-------
To be fair arsenal don't have any players that deserve to be anywhere near the list. Not having Mata though..
