A new 3rd part of BBC - Liverpool make bid for Lallana in the never ending saga that is the departure of Adam Lallana from his beloved Southampton FC. The club where he always wanted to keep playing football until the end of his career [do I speak an untruth there..?]. I guess he changed his mind. This was the original article that sparked it off: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/27371960 Now read: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/27647888 and write on...
Might as well start this thread on the thought we left off on. Still hating Twatbeard right now, but good chance I'll get over it.
http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/saints/news/11313006.Lallana_thanks_Saints_fans/?ref=mac He has gone, thanks Adam, good-bye for now, let us all move on.
I get that everyone will probably get over it, which is fine, but long term are we still going to count him as a club legend or whatever?
At the moment, I'm favouring Kenwyne Jones. Yeah, I'll get over it. I'm a human being frist, not a football fan. The guy changed his mind, such as it was [oops, there I go again]. I may even play a few of his great moments eventually. Things, is, at the moment I'd love him to fall on arse while trying to do something cool on the pitch for Liverpool. I know it's juvenile of me, but I'm going with it because I want to enjoy the experience of being juvenile in my thoughts. And Lallana is an easy target at the moment. I got over Kenwyne Jones in a heartbeat. Thing is, would one have these players back..? That's the make or break point for me.
A lot is going to depend on hoe the replacements do. If they turn out to be better and we somehow end up improving then it will be Adam who? If they don't perform then I think the bitter taste will remain for a lot longer.
He'll be remembered as one of the top players in our time outside of the Premier League. I reckon we'll associate him with the end of the dark days and the beginning of our climb, but if we've got some great years to come in the PL then he won't be remembered as being a part of one of the best ever Saints sides.
Devils advocate - didn't he help you get from league 1 to the prem? you boys are now at the point where you can spend some serious money and start going for European footie. So you have a lot more to show for his 14 years than his ****ty pr. But I feel it wouldn't have done him any harm to have taken a page out of Lambert's book on how to exit gracefully!
Thing is, it's great having a pantomime villain, and someone to focus our natural irritation about what has been and still is going on. Step forward Lord Twatbeard.
We'd have had a far greater chance of European football had they stayed, as they committed to doing in word and on paper, and we'd added to that squad with the money we already have, which is not inconsiderable.
Yea Torres did the same for us and Suarez too. Both had new contracts, both said their hearts were with the club, both though fluttering their eyes at other clubs. I think loyalty is very rare these days, even Gerrard almost dumped us for Chelsea, and that was on the back of us winning the bloody CL!
Yes, and it's annoying, isn't it? So you should really understand why we're pissed off. Not with Rickie, but with Lord Twatbeard.
Annoyed with Torres because it was the last day of the season that he requested a transfer. But not so much with Suarez, I guess because he has been a major part of hauling us into the CL, even if he is a knob and will most likely leave in an ungracious way this summer - at the end of the day he's taken us from A to B and we will re-invest and move on.
And I'm sure you'll be just delighted when he refuses to ever play for you again, and tells you, publically, that he spent all last season dreaming of playing for Barcelona. Your fanbase will react poorly to that. You know it, I know it. So stop with the pretend maturity.
Gerrard is the only comparison of those 3. Torres and Suarez only came for money and chance of success. Gerrard was going to go but didn't in the end and I bet it didn't take much persuading for him to stay whereas Lallana has come through Saints ranks, constantly kissed the badge, constantly spoke of his love for Saints (even though we hear he has been wanting out for the past 6 months, maybe more) Signed a 5 year contract and said things countenancing wanting to retire at Saints. I am over him leaving, but will never forget his lies. I will always be cheering when things go wrong for him, whilst cheering on whichever player WANTS to wear the Saints shirt. You will be able to gauge the anger on the opening day of the season when the Saints fans give Lallana's name the loudest boo you have ever heard whilst giving Lambert's name a standing ovation.
