Please help me settle an argument at work. If a game was being shown live on all the channels where would you choose to watch it? For me it would be the Beeb purely beacuse I can't stand all the ads on the others. I accept some of the pundits are second rate. Sky would come second with ITV only if desperate. How about you?
Yes would have to agree with most perhaps....The Beeb for me can't stand adverts. Yes sky would be second I too think ITV the pits when it comes to sport. They just don't do it for me!
You should all count yourselves lucky!!!!! For the England games I have to make do with ESPN, which during the game has the absolutely god-awful combo of Ian Darke and Steve McMananaman, and for the post-match analysis has some clueless, fat, hyper American bloke, along with Michael Ballack (devoid of any personality, and very anti-England) and Alexei Lalas (actually he comes across as quite a nice fella, and very pro-England/Hodgson). And for Premier League games I have to make do with Chinese commentary, which, if you're unfortunate enough to be able to understand it, basically equates to "He kicks the ball with his left foot, and now with his right foot. Now his right foot. His left foot. His left foot again. Out-of play! Throw-in!!....... He picks up the ball... etc" And then obviously Chinese analysis which is equally shocking. On top of that, this is all usually happening at around beer o'clock on a Saturday night down the local ex-pat boozer where the tunes are banging out anyway. Not good, I tell thee.
Here in Australia we have Fox sports which I have the luxury of watching all live games - There is the main televised game and then with that luverly red button it brings up a page of "viewers Choice' which whilst watching the main game gives all the other games being played and you can choose which game you want to view so basically I can whilst being all those miles away watch the Saints play - plus no adverts - "lottery winner" YES !!
SKY. I don't know why people claim to hate them so much, their coverage is usually very good. I guess people just think its fashionable to "hate" SKY so they follow the crowd
Agreed. BBC as no adverts. Ruddy hate adverts SKY as they have the best girls and reporters ITV if desperate. Truely awful for football now.
ITV are shocking - they have screwed up before with putting on adverts during a game. BBC are ok, but their coverage of Pompey v Saints wasn't particularly good. Has to be sky for number 1 for me - their coverage is a lot better than BBC and ITV.
Sky's sports coverage is simply on a different planet to anyone else. Everything about their productions is first class. Sadly, the BBC and ITV are years behind primarily due to budgets but in no small part down to the infrequency with which they broadcast compared to Sky.
You know, I'm close to thinking this as well. The pre-match/half time stuff gets so boring that I switch it off, so the adverts don't bother me. Don't have Sky though, not because I have any morals left but I can't afford it. All the England knockout games are on BBC now.
Really showing your ignorance there my friend. There are very good reasons to dislike the Murdoch empire and I have felt that way for many years, nothing 'fashionable' about it. Quite apart from that, for the money you pay, the quality of punditry and analysis on Sky is pretty poor. Match of the Day is the best football programme on TV by a distance, even if some of the BBC pundits are getting a bit 'tired'.
There is a tiredness of late to the BBC punditry, maybe Hanson needs to hang up his boots? Lee dixon at least keeps it a bit vibrant. Trying to think who else could freshen up on a regular basis.
I remember those days... Although, when I went back a couple of weeks ago, I had to watch it on CCTV5 - the analysis is embarrassing!
Him and Lawrenson have to be put out to pasture at some point. Shearer is clueless. Dixon and Lineker are good though. Lots of the radio 5 pundits are excellent, they should get some of them in front of the cameras sometime.
