The Club have bought the old BBC Sports Ground. The area, which has been derelict for 10 years or so, is kind of triangular and about two-thirds the size of our adjacent existing Motspur Park training ground.

We've bought it from an Irish family who had paid £3m for it back in 2005. Originally they wanted to develop the land as a leisure and fitness centre but that fell foul of local residents and the planning people. Then the plan was to turn it into a cemetery but yet again that failed to gain favour. Almost exactly a year ago the old club house was razed after catching fire.

Neither Fulham FC or the Khans have commented on what they have in mind for the plot. So, for now can only speculate that it's either for Academy use or a training base for Mr Khan's pet NFL franchise lot to train on.

The Club statement as of today.

We are pleased to announce that the Club has recently completed the acquisition of the former BBC Sports Ground located in Motspur Park. The site is situated opposite the Fulham Football Club Training Ground which, last season in particular, received significant funds by the Chairman to upgrade facilities.

Further news regarding the ground will be communicated during the coming months.

Shahid Khan, Fulham Chairman, said: “The purchase of the site gives our Club additional and much-needed flexibility at Motspur Park and reinforces our commitment to providing first-class resources and one of the best training environments in all of football. We haven’t yet determined exactly how we will use the property, but one thing I can guarantee is we will be respectful owners and excellent neighbours.

“I’m very appreciative to everyone who helped make this happen. It’s great news for the continued progress of our First Team and a huge boost as well for all of our squads and our renowned Academy.”
