Looks like we could be in for a nail biting finish for that 7th place. Brum could already be beyond catching by the time they arrive at the CCS. Need a new manager as I can see us getting out of this Division with Slade unfortunately.
Last night was a bitter pill to swallow and his reluctance to use Zohore for any meaningful amount of time is bizarre. I've always had time for strikers who get chances, even if they miss a few they're doing something right to be there in the first place. Zohore must average a chance every 5 minutes or so in his City career. If he starts finishing a few of them he could be a weapon. Nin has been on Pilks case as a striker for a while. I defended his selection at first as it was working. 2 points from 12 is not working and it should have been changed much earlier. To pick the same 11 as the one that produced that horribly negative first half v QPR was a real kick in the bollocks. Does that mean that Slade should be let go? The emotion of Slade throwing away a very real chance of the playoffs (due to Wednesday's very average form) is raw with me at the moment. The feeling we had the tools in Zohore and Saadi that could have been used differently is one it'll take a while to forgive him for. The flip side is this season is almost certain to represent progress on last. I'm not sure you can expect too much more. We are not big spenders and our squad is still littered with the mistakes of those before Slade. I'd shudder to think what Macheda has cost the club for example. I still think he's worth another season unless our budget is going to change. If Tan wants to spend I think we need a better manager, if we're shopping in poundland again I think Slade is as safe a bet as any.
I'd shudder to think what Macheda has cost the club for example. I still think he's worth another season unless our budget is going to change. I admire your loyalty but you are now taking the pi$$ Stevo. Are you stalking him? Time to let go mate. Everyone else did some time ago. And his goals per game rate at Forest is? Lol!!!
Bluey - I think Stevo's talking about Slade when he says he's worth another season - not Macheda........... Mind you if he is talking about Macheda, he needs certifying.
hahaha. Slade not Macheda! I think Forrest fans have declared him the worst player they've ever had...... I'm as disappointed as anyone by the way Slade has let this chance go, but he's improving as a manager at this level. You can't decide you want to sack your manager on every dip in form unless you want to be Forrest or Fulham. If he's allowed a bit of modest investment in the squad this summer he deserves another chance. I think me and Isaw were the only ones on here that saw anything other than a relegation dog fight. We've been loads better than that and pretty much everyone on here would have to admit they didn't see us in 7th place threatening the play offs after 40 odd games. I'd put a contract on the table that demanded top 6 with an in season stipulation he had to be with in 12 points of 6th place (or better...) at all times. You could stick a massive promotion bonus in so it swings both ways. At the end of next season you'd have a top 6 club or a new manager without paying compensation. I just feel like we need at least 1 more stable season before we role dice.
I wouldn't take the chance on him Stevo. I fear another season much the same under a manager out of his depth at this level. He has no perception as to what it really takes to get a winning mentality established. He's far too cosy and is only still with us now after that numbing first half of the season because Tan appointed him personally. He should be thanked for the task he undertook when he was brought in but now cut loose in this competitive football world in which we exist. His managerial experience is derived from the lower league clubs and with all due respect to what appears to be a very nice human being, he should return there to ply his trade. The nettle needs to be grasped and a bold manager sought out to take us to the next level. Although we chat on here and opinions can change as often as results, deep down I thought he was leading us nowhere well before Christmas. A little burst of decent results started to make me think perhaps - just perhaps we could pull something off but those decent results were peppered with some tragic failings against lower table clubs that we should have beaten. That's why he has failed and why we are not a comfortable top 6 club at this point. Nice guy but no cigar - he is simply not good enough to do the business and should be replaced well before the start of next season.
The coaches need to go with him it needs a major overhaul. We need to get a cup thrower in to get some passion in the team.
Slade was on a hiding to nothing because VT said he would make a marque managerial appointment and then gave us Slade. Underwhelmed at the appointment but surprised he managed to get us to where we are, I envisaged a struggle to remain in the championship. Pleasantly surprised at that not being the case, but a new improved manager is needed to move us forward. Thanks Mr. Slade but time to move on.
My point is best described by an example of a side in a very similar to position to us last season - Brentford. Our managerial appointments have not been a sure thing by any means, there is no doubt this squad could be bottom half and struggling with the wrong man in charge. Fulham and QPR have shown a fairly talented squad means nothing in this division without the right structure and leadership. If Slade stays we'll be around the top 6 next season imo. Without knowing who we can attract I think we are 50/50 at best to get a better manager than Slade. Every side above us has deeper pockets than us at the moment. As I mentioned in my first post, if the budget is changing and big funds are available then see if a proven man can be attracted. As it is fans wanting a 25 goal a season striker and Pearson type manager need to say where the £15m+ is coming from to fund those things.
