http://www.skysports.com/story/0,,11680_7109044,00.html I've always like Swansea, good football playing team friendly fans etc. One thing however which is beginning to annoy us Boro fans is the dErisory offers your manager keeps making for our players!!! How he valued Lita initially at less than 1m i'll never know. Now, our best defender Bates you offer 1m!!?? He may have 1 year left on his contract but 1m is laughable. He's an integeral part of our promotion bid and with less than 2 weeks of the transfer window we can't replace him at all with like for like quality. Try 2.5-3m then you'll get him, Boro would still lose out even if you bid 3m for him tho. Also irrespective of his injury record he's fully recovered from the Cruiciate injury (and they actuall get harder to repeat the same injury after recovery). Very classy ball playing defender and if he had a 5 yr contract we wouldn't be looking any less than 6m for him!! Please tell your manager to stop insulting us with poor bids, put up or shut up!
To be fair £1m is a bit low, I suppose we're trying to take advantage of the fact that you could do with the wage bill being freed up a bit. We should try a £2m bid and see what happens, if we're going to get Bates, we should bring him in sooner rather than later. Also, any chance of having Emnes?
Sorry pissy but every player has two valuations in a transfer There is how much he is worth to the selling club, in this case he might be worth at least £2.5-3m as a key player in a promotion bid but only a year left on his contract. Then there is how much he is worth to the buying club and for a player who will probably sit on the bench behind Williams and Caulker for much of the season he is worth £1-1.5m at tops. Nobody is insulting anyone, it's purely a number game. If our bid doesn't match your valuation then it gets rejected and both parties move on, no harm done. Also I would suggest that the mere fact that serious talks have taken place mean that you're club does not rate him as highly as you do anyway. If our bid was genuinely less than half Boro's valuation then it wouldn't have got past a cursory phone call. Bear in mind as well your own manager's comment that basically admit's they want him off the payroll (because of his salary) with a fee for good measure. Perhaps the move saving your club £1m or so in salary is something to consider instead of just blustering about a fee.
Id say 1.5mil is about right with a year left on his contract. Wouldnt pay much more than that thou imo.
well thats what happens in football today,,, The club lets the player run down his contract and when another club comes in for him you wont get top dollar. nobody knows this more than us with some players going for free. the bargaining power is lost with the parent club because if the player wants to move to a higher level and the club wont let him go then that player will run his contract down and go for free. ...£1 million might be cheap but you either take that or maybe a bit more or get nothing for him at the end of the season.....thats the way every club does buisiness these days..
Also there's no way we should be offering more than 1.5 mill tops for a player who will be cover for us at best and who is in the last year of his contract. If Boro think the offer of £1 mill is too little , then they only have to reject it. Why would this annoy you. No skin off your nose surely?
fair point lads, to the buying club he won't be worth 3m, but I wouldn't say its no skin off our nose. Transfer speculation will effect the players mentality until the end of August as he wont know what he's doing with himself then cannot fully commit to Boro. Thats why its annoying Boro fans that we can't settle until we know who's in, who's out etc. We now don't need to sell any players, the only reason Mogga would sell Bates is to fund a striker coming in since we sold Lita to you guys we've been left a little short up front. (think that answers the question on Emnes, if we sold you him we would only have 1 recognised striker at Boro with the other being Lee Miller, you can have him for free lads haha)
If that's the case then that's a very poor reflection on the professionalism of the guy for me. He's being paid more a week than any of us earn a month he should be a pro and give 100% in training and games regardless of speculation and/or talks. Personally I think we as fans give players far too little credit for being able to ignore stuff like this, most of them just keep their heads down and performances rarely drop as a result of transfer talks.
your right that it unsettles a player pissy, our ex player prattley went into that mode and just went through the motions, he ended up a bit part player and he saw out his contract and left for bolton When is head was straight he was one hell of a player and scored some very important goals for us. nobody wants an unsettled player in the dressing room as its not good.....sometimes a player should show some loyalty to their club and understand the predicament the club is in at the time...
its not that Bates isn't putting in the performances on the pitch, because the last 2 games he's been fantastic (and to answer a point made earlier, I would fully expect Bates to be a first team regular of yours and not a sub, he's far too good on his day to warm the bench). Bates has showed most his distraction off the pitch (luckily for us). Bates is a Middlesbrough lad born and bred, the stumbling block for us is his premiership wages, for Bates his decision would be based on whether he feels we are going up and whether he feels Swansea will come back down. If he thinks you'll stay up, he may well be on his way. We just want it over and done with sold or not so we can make our arrangements to bring in replacements. Part of the annoyance for us Boro fabs is in recent years we've always had a player go last minute not giving us that time to replace them leaving us abit short of quality.
pissyface - I love the way you say please tell your manager. Ill have a word with Brendan when I get home later is that ok for you?
Bollocks. Dai he was injured early in the season and never settled back into the team properly a Dobbie had taken his role, he still managed 11 goals for us despite "going through the motions". You're ridiculous vies in the face of facts and figures really does astound me sometimes.
Oh for god's sake stop whining. I'd be pretty cheesed off if the Swans went straight in with high offers just because we are now a Prem team with money in the bank. Top clubs like Chelsea have often paid daft money for players worth a lot less in the recent past. Every team that comes in for a player starts low, the selling team starts high, and you meet somewhere in the middle - that's how it works. Get over it. As for 'unsettling' a player, well diddums. If he wants away he'll go. If he's happy with his lot he'll stay. The guy has a year left on his contract and you haven't nailed him down yet so what does that tell us? He's keeping his options open maybe? 1 year left and a dodgy knee? Bodde has proved that many never come back from a cruciate injury so there's a definite risk. Grab it Boro, it's the best you'll get.
HTR, bit forceful that, mate. Pissy's only come on here to exchange views which is what the forum is about. You make some good points actually, particularly about the dodgy knee. He seems to be a good player but a risky buy and I wonder how our insurers would view it if we signed him knowing about his medical history. I guess they might refuse the risk or demand an eye-watering premium to take it on. Might be worth a gamble but only at the right price.
Didn't think he meant to 'exchange views', ivor. It was a pretty direct broadside at our manager that he basically accuses of trying to rip off his club, which actually isn't true when you take into account the factors we've all mentioned. I've simply told him to get real. No offence was meant, though I'd class my response as 'brusque'. Love that word.
Do not be so naive Mr Sippyface. It's called...... negotiation. We show an interest, you ask how much , we hit you in the balls with our first offer , you (whilst spluttering from the shock) quote a completely unrealistic price in return ..... and 'BOSH' approximately 3 - 5 phonecalls later, at some point we meet in the middle. Hence he will be sold for approx £1.75 mill 'IF' Swansea maintain their interest. HERE ENDETH THE LESSON. Now how much whas it for our Marvin back again???
You need to change the title of this thread you'll have loads of us Leeds United fans on wondering what our beloved chairman's been up to??????
