Eintracht Frankfurt defender Bastian Oczipka has dismissed reports linking him with a move to Sunderland.

The highly-rated left-back had reportedly emerged as a target for Paolo Di Canio as the Italian continues to look to change things around at the Stadium of Light this summer.

But the overhaul is unlikely to include the 24-year-old Frankfurt player after he indicated he had no interest in the move.

"I have been told about that offer," said Oczipka, quoted in the Offenbach Post.

"Still, this is not an issue for me. I have two more years of my contract with Eintracht Frankfurt.

"Financially, it is a lucrative offer but does not appeal in a sporting sense.

"We are a side going to play in the Europa League this season. Therefore I am not interested in just ticking over at a mid-table team in England."

    Eeeeeeee.......the cheeky devil!!!!!

Good for him I say! At least he's not joining us for the right reasons!

'Mid table team in England???????' Bloody hope so! That'll do me!

no problem with that reason at all

could of easily came for the money

fair play to the lad and we move on as for who then I hope Danny Rose and really we have spent nothing!

we got 2m for Elmohamady and 9m rising to 11m for Mignolot. Since then we have signed Mannone for 2m, Karlsson for about 1.8m, Altidore for 6m, Giaccherini for around 6.2m (that will be paid over the next three years) and Peruzzi will sign today for 3.3m. So whats that a net of around 8m?

I would imagine we will move on Catts, Bardsley, Vaughan, McClean and one of Ji/Wickham so I think we will make more money then we have spent (if we get rid of them before anymore new faces) and with the new tv money surely it will let us splash a bit of cash so go on Ellis go all out for Danny Rose!

hearing reports Diakite could be the new John Mensah! Class when available but how often will that be the case?

If this is true along with Brown he has not played. competitive game for 18months, Cuellar who seems to pick up a couple of niggling injuries a season along with JoS do we need another CB? I say yes.

Go on Sunderland go and get Alderweireld. He is only a young lad and a top player, turned down Norwich last week.

If we got him and Rose in our backline along with todays Peruzzi signing I think our defence would be looking very healthy!

SUNDERLAND hope to clinch the signing of Gino Peruzzi today – bringing one right-back into the club just as another prepares to leave.

Argentine defender Peruzzi is on Wearside after flying over from Buenos Aires yesterday.

And the defender is expected to swiftly tie up a £3.3m deal before travelling onwards to Hong Kong to compete in the Barclays Asia Trophy with his new team-mates.

Two officials from his club, Velez Sarsfield, made the trip with him, as Peruzzi arrived to complete a medical and finalise personal terms.

Negotiations now are not expected to be long and drawn out, with agreements fully reached between the two clubs and Peruzzi happy with Sunderland’s improved terms.

Once the deal is agreed, the 21-year-old will become Sunderland’s new first-choice right-back – replacing Phil Bardsley in that role.

Peruzzi’s signing will confirm the end of Bardsley’s five-year stay at the Stadium of Light.

The 28-year-old, a former Sunderland Player of the Season, has been ostracised by head coach Paolo Di Canio since photographs emerged of a late-night casino session in the run-up to the final game of last season at Spurs in May.

Bardsley was fined and dropped for that game, after which he was harshly criticised by Di Canio, and did not travel with the team for their pre-season training camp in Italy.

He will not travel with the squad to Hong Kong this weekend either.

Instead, he played for Sunderland’s Under-21 development side yesterday in a goalless pre-season friendly against Southampton at the Academy of Light.

It has been a chastening experience for the defender, but Fulham are now expected to bring an end his miserable last few months on Wearside.

The Cottagers and Sheffield Wednesday were among the clubs most interested in him.

But the Championship side have now dropped out of the running after realising they could not afford his wages.

Fulham boss Martin Jol, though, will have no problem agreeing a package with the former Manchester United youth player, particularly as the Dutchman knows the unwanted defender will be available at a knock-down price.

With Bardsley clearly not going to play for Sunderland again, the club want him off the books as soon as possible.

And Fulham are expected to capitalise on the situation by agreeing a cut-price deal for a player who has made close to 150 starts for Sunderland since being signed by Roy Keane in January, 2008.

For £3.3m hes a steal with all the hype about him!

Just hope he is not Angeleri mk.2!
