Bassong signing a new two year deal is great news for all kinds of reasons. Firstly our defence is much better with him in it. Even those who thought he would forever be exiled from the club (and some seemed happy for that to happen) must admit that AN's record of having the tightest defence in the league since he took over is in no small part a tribute to Seb. It's another sign of the progress of the club too, that so many of our best players are signing new contracts. A settled squad is so important to build upon. It's also good for Russell Martin. The mess of club/team captaincies in our relegation season always appeared partly the reason for Bassong's downfall and then exile. I doubt all that did anything to help what was going on off the field, or what was going off on the field. RM and SB aren't going to be top 6 players, but they seem to have cemented something of a solid partnership. Not perfect - but I don't believe it is anywhere close to the worst in the league. Happy for Seb. He was our Golden boy in his first season - I reckon he's getting some of that glimmer back with more and more Canaries.
Yeah if Bassong doesn't go to lazy town he is our best CB. When is the African Nations though? Will we miss him this year?
