And no, not the fish. From the pounding root notes to the harmonic melody to the out and out showmanship slapping and plucking this thread is dedicated to the lower end of the register. His aggressive playing style often over-spilled into violence involving the crowd. Burnel has a habit of diving into the audience to deal with hecklers and moshers alike. He gets Ponder's vote but what say you?
Ladies & Gentlemen, Mr Bernard Edwards please log in to view this image The other half of Uber-Disco Kings Chic along with Nile Rodgers, they defined the late 70's Disco and Funk sound. Bernard's sublime bass lines went on to reach even wider audiences when sampled by the Sugarhill Gang for Rapper's Delight. Rapper's Delight was the reason the whole genre is called Hip Hop, after hearing the song played on the radio kids would rush into record stores and ask for a copy of that song that goes "hip hop" at the start. Edwards suffered from ill health and died shortly after performing in a Chic show in Japan.
Mr Mike Dirnt of Green Day. One of, if not the, best modern punk bass players. While Billie Joe is thrashing away with his three chords Dirnt can be found punching out solid rhythms and at the same time providing most of the melody and harmony within the tune as well as taking a more lead instrument role as per Longview. As well as playing bass Dirnt also provides the signature Green Day harmonies and backing vocals. please log in to view this image
Where's Bruce Foxton? His bass was the foundation of many a Jam classic. Geezer Butler also uplifted Tony Iommy's big riffs. lots of great bass players out there.
Adam Clayton of U2 goes a bit under the radar but is an excellent technician ... the bass on With Or Without You takes the song to a different level ...
My God people! What is wrong with you lot. Lemmy is without doubt a Bass god. James Jamerson is a Motown legend. Jack Bruce Rocked the bass Bootsie Collins funktastic.
