NEWS: BASINGSTOKE TOWN TO PARTNER WITH CHAMPIONSHIP SIDE QPR

By Will Wilkinson Posted April 20, 2016

Basingstoke Town Football Club are pleased to announce a partnership with championship side, Queens Park Rangers. The partnership will be in place for the 2016/17 season and will see the non-league club regularly work with the championship club. The deal was agreed last week and it is now confirmed that Basingstoke Town is an official partner club.

The partnership will see Basingstoke Town play QPR academy and development teams throughout the 2016/17 season, in games of an exhibition nature, and play in festivals together. Off the field Basingstoke will have visits from QPR coaching staff and there will also be a coach education programme put in place for the Basingstoke Town coaching team. The community set up is an important area also and there has been discussions of prizes including tickets, donated by QPR for holiday camps and community projects.

Adam Clark, the Manager of the Youth Department at Basingstoke Town, said; “ This is great news for the football club. The players and staff will see great reward from having such an exclusive partnership in place. The aim of the Junior Premier League set up that we have in place at the club is to provide experiences for the players that they won’t normally get in grass roots football. As well as giving the players these great opportunities, the coaches will be able to work alongside coaches from a category 2 academy. There are a lot of football centre’s in the area that run under certain clubs and it’s great that Basingstoke Town can now have a championship side working in partnership with them.”

The partnership will see a recruitment drive in the area with ‘Talent ID’ days planned and also a community project to involve as many players as possible. Adam commented, “ These plans that are in place will be open to all players of Basingstoke and surrounding area’s. It’s great that we will receive support in this from QPR and hopefully we will see some local players make the step up to academy football”.

Glenn Tuffin, Foundation Phase Scout Coordinator at Queens Park Rangers, is delighted that the partnership is finally agreed. He added, “I’m delighted to get a club like Basingstoke Town on board, they have a great set up and we are happy they believe in what we are doing at QPR. With the emphasis on home grown players ever present in modern day football it’s important for us to form these partnerships and help out clubs like Basingstoke Town in producing local talent.”

Adam and Glenn will be meeting on a weekly basis to ensure that the partnership will be used to it’s full potential. This will mean a bright future for everyone involved with Basingstoke Town as there will be a clear pathway in place and the potential to join a championship football club.

Anyone from the Surrey area have any idea if they have any hidden gems for JFH?

As long as we don't do a Wimbledon/MK Dons and relocate our club to a new stadium there.

Build it and they will come?

The Camrose stadium has a capacity of 2,500 but the new stadium would have double that amount
Plans for a £10m stadium for a Hampshire non-league football club have gone on show.

Basingstoke Town, which is in the Conference South division, wants to relocate and turn its current ground into a retail park and sports complex.

Club chairman Rafi Razzak said Camrose stadium "falls short of league standards" and the club had "big ambitions for the future".

Fans can have their say in a public consultation on the move to Old Common.

The club wants to move to land (in red) known as Old Common
The Camrose stadium has a capacity of 2,500 with an average attendance of 312 last season, when the club finished 14th out of 22 teams.

A club spokesman said the new site "would give the club the opportunity to move into a higher league and provide spectators with much improved facilities".

Mr Razzak said: "Camrose has been a fantastic home for us for well over 60 years and it has seen many great sporting moments.

"But now it is in such need of modernising that it threatens to become a major obstacle to realising the club's dreams."

The club wants to use an eight-acre (3.2 hectares) piece of land owned by Basingstoke & Deane Borough Council between London Road and Old Common Road near War Memorial Park.

The club said the money for the new stadium, with a planned capacity for 5,124, would come from the sale of the section of the Camrose ground owned by Basingstoke Town.

I guess only one way to go but up for Basingstoke, stranded on 32 pts, already relegated from National League South.

If they are a senior club only with no under age teams (not sure exactly what teams they do and don't have), I'm not sure exactly how such a partnership would benefit us. It would be different if they were a top class under age club and we got first dibs on their best players. I know in the past that some of the top schoolboy clubs over here had arrangements in place like that with English teams.

I have no idea how it will work, but this season Basingstoke will be relegated from Conference South.

However, they are going full time professional for next season! I THINK that will mean that they will employ mainly (or fully) youth players & this would entail further education being supplied. I gather that there are a fwew non league clubs that have followed this route. Apparently, wages are lower than paying senior non league players!

This partnership may be for the educational side, but possibly we will trialling youngsters released from clubs through Basingstoke.

Ian Wright, Jamie Vardy, Charlie Austin, Les Ferdinand, Andy Impey, Joe Hart, Chris Smalling, Yannick Bolaise, Danny Ings - all premier league players that started their careers in none league. I not saying for one instance that we will find someone that could have the impact that the above players have had, but to have a link up with a none league team surely must have some benefits?

Basingstoke, the bottom and relegated team from the National League South somehow managed to defeat 4th place potential play-off hopeful Truro City 2-0 today. Next season could be an interesting player development project and benchmark target to them get promoted back to this level.

Looking at National League results I wasn't aware that Lee Cook plays for Eastleigh, still only 33 in his injury plagued career. They lost 1-0 at home to Tranmere today to a late goal in a vital match, likely losing out on another play-off run. Eastleigh also have once prolific goal scorer Matt Tubbs in their ranks.
