Well... Just got back from Basel... ****ing awesome. Loved every minute of that trip.
We were on a coach to Switzerland so it was a long 12 hour slog but not bad as just slept on the way there mostly. Got to Basel at about 12. Wondered around the centre for a bit and saw some sights before having lunch in a lovely little square slotted off a backstreet... The weather was 25 degrees + so absolutely beautiful but in the end almost too hot during the day! There was a group of about 10 of us who went to a pub in the centre and other CFC fans who we knew came along and others we didn't.
In the end two pub opposite each other were all Chelsea. Flags flying high. Chants sung left right and centre. Pints sunk. Hated every minute of it
We all did have too much to drink so started sobering up about 4 hours ahead of kick off. Was bouncing and ready for the game 2 hours later so we headed to the ground to soak in the atmosphere. Got in about 70 mins before kick off and saw already the Basel ultras in full swing in the opposite end to us. They were cracking support wise. We took about 900-1000 fans and we didn't stop chanting throughout. We were put in some sort of cage which was alright as we just climbed on the cage to get the chants going etc. We dominated the first half and should have been 2 up. Moses with the goal and Hazard missed the one on one.
2nd half they had a go early on but how did Torres not score? ****ing hit the bar and then missed a sitter. It was offside but he should be scoring them ffs. They got the equaliser to send them barmy. It was no way a penalty and we couldn't believe it but what's new? Flares let off all over the shot which looked impressive. But then we raised our game... Terry was so close but it came down to the last kick. Luiz with the goal. We went absolutely mental. Honestly... thought the cages were gunna fall down and all!
They were gutted which was clear to see and understandable. But what a trip. The journey back went by quickly and now I'm shattered. A top European away trip. Loved every minute of it
