Can't for the life of me remember where I saw it, but I read that Barton was being represented by his own personal lawyer for at least one of the charges.

Anyone know why this was? Might it have been because the club refused to represent him?

The PFA chief had already criticised him in the press. Mel Stein was Gazza's agent many years ago so he probably has wider experience of representing nutcases...

He had Nick De Marco as well by his side. Same guy that was in our legal team in the Faurlin hearing. Not sure if he was there on behalf of the club or Joey or both.

Waste of money at an FA disciplinary hearing. Derry's case proved that.

I read in the Times just after the Man City game that Barton had chosen to go with his own lawyer rather than use the club's. Read into that what you will!
