Once again, Barton shows his true colours. it was only a matter of time eh?
I agree, it wasn't a fully fledged headbutt, but it shouldn't have to be. It's not like Johnson was wailing around in the floor.

Barton squared upto him, but should have walked away, especially as captain. An act I'm certain Paddy, Derry, Faurlin etc would not get involved in. Another display of an overpaid, egomaniac.......yawn. And to top of it off he has been dreadful this season.

We lost that game today cos of one player and his poor behaviour. It was a must win game......so pissed off that I am going to bed and will cry myself to sleep.....;-)

As team Captain, he should have shown more composure. He can tweet all he likes but he got that wrong, especially after us going 1 up and in relative control. Not captain in my books; Faurlin or Taraabt deserve it more.

Barton was being regularly fouled with no protection from the ref, squared up to the main protagonist, got scythed down 10 seconds later and then got sent off for daring to square up to the guy. He didn't headbutt him, he didn't raise his hands to him unlike Johnson did later on yet he got sent off by a referee and linesman who didn't see it. I don't know what you expected the bloke to do- if that was any of the other 21 players on the pitch the ref would never have sent him off.

Derry (if he played more regularly) or even HH for me, possibly Ferdinand.

    This.

Others may have walked away, Joey's not that kind of player. Take away the passion and you take away part of him. But understand this - he did NOT headbutt Johnson, nor did he raise his hands to him. He did NOT deserve to be sent off. The referee got it wrong, and the linesman was conned by the cheating Johnson.

    Expect an appeal.

LET THE REF DEAL WITH IT. What an idiotic comment to make why do you think we have referees in the first place?! Why do players ever think they can police the game? It has spilled over into kids matches too, they will appeal for every single game.

We were winning one nil. We were in control. No panic. Eventually the ref would have dealt with it.

Barton was our best player up until that point.
He was given no help by the **** ref and his mates.
If you was at the game you could see Norwich taking it in turns to dig Barton out.
Lappin scythed Barton down and should of been carded.

I thought Barton was quite restrained all considered.

The sending off was a nothing, a victim of Norwich's designed provocation and cheating.
That was planned by Lambert and Co.

The sad soft ref fell for it.
I know Barton has his detractors on here, and deservedly so.
But he was grievously wronged today.

Give the captaincy back to Adel when he comes back from the ACN. If Barton don't like it drop him. End of.

Possibly, but this is the Premier League. No more Championship Memories or methods. NW should show us that and do something different. Norwich and Swansea have adapted with half the outlay we've committed to; change formation, change captain, and, dare I say it, change at the top? Or is it too late?

Except he never was going to deal with it. He'd already let more than one late challenge on Barton go and seemed intent on giving the Norwich midfield free rein to do as they pleased as well as the rest of the team to rough our lot up whilst blowing up every time one of our players went within five yards of theirs. A competent ref would have taken the sting out of the situation far earlier and it's quite clear that neither he nor the linesman saw what he claimed to send him off for, as it simply didn't happen.

It's all very well saying play to the whistle, let the ref do his job etc etc but it's a passionate game and Barton had a right to give some verbal back which he did and had he headbutted him it would have crossed the line, but he didn't.

He should not have reacted. Laugh and walk away. 3 points. He and we will regret this performance.

What's the fixation with this captain ****?
Adel was captain last season only in name.
Let's not bother having a captain, or give it to the senior player.
We all know who was our real captain last season.

Who wears an armband doesn't matter Jack ****.

imo all he did was retaliate and he didn't headbutt him so it should of been a yellow card at worse but saying that karma probably got him the red card due to when he played up and got gervinho sent off in your match with arsenal

It wasn't our match with Arsenal.

I guess we'll be expecting an undeserved red card for Lampard soon then. Then again, he's the only person to ever lose a relative so he deserves some slack.

Never a red but barton never gets anything from refs look at wolves last year also to say let the ref deal with it is stupid as just before he was sent off he was fouled what did the ref do nothing.

When you have a reputation as a dirty nasty piece of work then what do you expect, his scum and gets treated like scum, fairs fair. It wern't a red but his only got himself to blame because if the ref doesn't see his most likely to think Barton has done it due to his rep

nm was the newcastle arsenal match then lol still karma though and doubt it because lampard isn't a scumbag and known as a scumbag, his a fair player and quickly apologised for the tackle and it was not two footed so it didn't deserve a red, it was a clumsy tackle. Obviously you can say it was a red because some of the reds that have been given this season were for much less but their evidence of **** refereeing
