The last couple of weeks has seen us linked to Bellamy, and a debate about whether or not we would accept Barton in our team.

The general opinion is that Barton is not worth the hassle due to his reputation as a thug, and the negative influence he would have on the dressing room.


However, people seem to want Bellamy in the team, who would be, imo, just a negative influence as Barton.
  • On 29 November 2006, after a trial lasting five days, a court cleared him assaulting two women in Cardiff.
  • In 2007, when a drunken Bellamy allegedly confronted then-Liverpool team-mate John Arne Riise with a golf club.
  • On 22 September 2009, during a game against Manchester United at Old Trafford, Bellamy shoved a pitch invader. Police declined to investigate Bellamy and Manchester United banned the spectator for three years.
  • On 12 January 2011, Bellamy was arrested and bailed on an alleged assault claim in Cardiff, in which two men suffered facial injuries.


Ok, so he wasnt convicted for any of them, but it shows a tendency for trouble.



Bellamy is a great player, no doubt about it, but I think it would be a risk to sign him.

A solution would be to get him on loan and see how he affects the dressing room. if he doesnt cause problems then buy him later on.
 
Well, the more I read about the Bellamy transfer, I'm led to believe we would only get him on loan?? Haven't seen any stories of us buying him.

I reckon he'll be a quality addition to the team. Some players, as is the case with Bellamy/Barton etc do have a reputation and there's always an element of risk involved but that shouldn't detract from the fact that they are quality footballers. If we do get him on loan and he turns out to be a complete bellend (which I don't think will be the case) then we can easily ship him off back to City.

Get this transfer sorted asap I reckon!!!!

err, yeah I know that.

Doesn't mean he cant have a head for trouble though and he has a rep for bad influence in the dressing room.

Diouf and Chimbo hadnt been convicted of anything either, but we all know how their time at SAFC worked out....
 
Reputations can be very very wrong.
Bellamy has much to be admired for.
His passion on the field is undeniable. His family life is settled, quite a surprise in this world of marriage meaning **** all to many celebs. And how many players these days would drop down the leagues to play for there home town team?
So yes Bellamy could be a bad influance, then again. He may just bring a much needed bit of passion and steel to the squad.

Very simplistic way at looking at things. So if I murder someone and no one finds out its me, am I innocent?

Is Gerrard innocent of assault when it was clear as day for all to see (part from payed off/ biased judges) that he attacked that DJ.

Bellamy would be good for Sunderland if he stayed out of trouble though (if he is still as good as he used to be).

It may be simplistic but it's the only way it can be viewed. What's the alternative?
Everyone charged and subsequently found innocent in a court of law would then be tarnished for the rest of their days.
That can't be rite. Can it?

Which is why i said a solution would be loan deal, as it would give us chance to assess if he deserves his rep.

btw, He may be "settled" in terms of family life but so was Giggs. If anything shows bellamy is a good light, it is his 680k donation to set up a footie academy in an African country (cant remember which one).

In the eye's of the law he is.

Gerrard, yet another one with history, but your honestly not trying to say "you wouldn't love for us to sign him also"
 
Some like to condemn on the back of hearsay and gossip.


"Bellamy shoved a pitch invader" Ooooh the shame of the man.
God know's what people would make of Cloughie and Cantona these days. Both legends. Both did far worse anything Bellamy has had proven against him.
