BARTON REBUKE FOR TAARABT QPR captain Joey Barton has told Adel Taarabt to buck up his ideas and urged the midfielder to fulfil his so-called "genius" tag. The Morocco international came on as a second-half substitute in Saturday's 1-1 draw with Blackburn at Loftus Road. Taarabt was one of three changes to the side that lost 6-0 at Fulham, where he was taken off at half-time and subsequently stormed out of Craven Cottage. While Barton admitted he was pleased Taarabt got so upset as it showed his passion, he urged the 22-year-old to use his frustrations to help fulfil his potential. "It is not a case of anybody giving him advice, it is whether it is taken on board," he told Absolute Radio's Rock 'n' Roll Football. "At the end of the day, this is the top level of world football and if you're not prepared to work hard you will come up massively short. "If I was Adel and had Adel's ability, I would not want to be coming up short having not worked hard enough. "I came here and was told he was a genius, but I'm yet to see it. "I don't know whether that is because he doesn't work hard enough or that he tends to sulk."I am happy that he is upset really because it shows he does care. [That said], there is a way of doing it. "He is not the only one guilty of it and that is what we have to understand here. "There were a few lads not selected whose heads went down and maybe they could apply themselves better. "It is one of those things. There is going to be a 14 or 15-man squad that keeps you in the league this year and everyone has to buy into it. "There will be times when players come in and out but their attitude, their reaction, is going to be the most important thing - not getting the bus home with fans and storming off. "Adel knows that and it would have been nice of him to come in and apologise for doing that. "He didn't think he needed to and some of the senior players maybe feel like he should have." The draw with Blackburn means QPR are still waiting for a first home victory since their return to the top flight after a 15-year absence. "We just need to get a home win under our belt," said Barton. "We're playing some really good stuff and equipping ourselves really well. "We just can't manage to get that elusive home win. "If we keep playing the way we are, it will come." iReader http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/15102011/63/barton-rebuke-taarabt.html
Pot calling the kettle black. Can Joey only perform if everyone else is on form? Who is deluded now Joey? I am very rapidly becoming sick of the guy.
And so the Barton Taarabt conflict begins... I genuinely think it's only a matter of time before Barton punches Taarabt in the head.
He'd be better off punching himself in the head. Does he honestly feel that he played well in the last two games? Physician, heal thyself.
Barton ran about enough albeit to limited effect - but he really should get a couple of books on leadership...
mr B ain't exactly setting the world on fire at the moment is he? come to think of it none of our players are. I think I'll watch the Chelsea match from behind the couch!
Whilst I fully expect us to be beaten by Chelsea if we can perform as we did against Newcastle/Wolves/Villa at least we'll be able to hold our heads up, another Fulham type performance would be totally embarrassing. The captain needs to start leading...
What a prat and to be honest, apart form a good game at wolves, hes done very little(apart from spout off about everyone!). Pity his names not Scott Parker!. Barton, faurlin and Derry system looks pants. Got to drop one of them and go 2 up top..I dont know who we play up top,but 4-4-2 all the same
Put your own house in order first Joey before mouthing off. I don't think his heart is in it and it is showing with mediocre performances at best so far.
I officially apologise to Roller!! You were right mate. Barton should just shut the **** up!! I'm convinced he has upset the team spirit in the team and he's also nothing like as good a player as, a) I thought he was and b) he thinks he is. Warnock may have dropped his biggest bollock by signing him and making him captain. Yesterday, we looked very poor with Barton in the central play making position and, in my opinion, we need Adel feeling free and relaxed in THAT position.
Agree with Rangercol. And don't see how the situation can be resolved without changing the team to JB's liking, or maybe these are the 5 new signings that Warnock is now talking about.
I wish I'd seen this before I started my last thread !!!! My argument against Barton was not about him as a footballer, just as a thug. He is a good footballer, he didn’t play worse than anyone else yesterday. Our team is only 5 matches old, Warnock is experimenting, trying to find the best formation, he best style of play and the best positions for the players. It will take time.
Before we bought Barton I was firmly aginst it as he has a questionable temprament and I never had rated him as a "good player", however I came around and went with the flow. I honestly wish I had stuck with my gut feeling because the guy could our downfall and he is with us for 4 years, oh ****!!!!!
Most people know where I stand on Joey ... Now he is the club captain I only hope he gets injured and we can re grow the spirit brothers ... Whether he is to blame for any unrest ... Is a question but for sure things are changing ... I went off to France for three/four weeks and as a barometer I can tell you the team doesn't feel the same ... That didn't take long and I consider myself to be one of the most optimistic posters to his forum I maybe considered mad but I am serious about the team spirit something has gone and did it go before the Fulham game ? I am a very worried Dave Thomas
Hope it ain't that bad Dave! I've been disapointed with Joey's performances too, he's shown little creativity. But as I wrote on another thread I think he looked a better bet in a 2 man defensive midfield than Derry did yesterday. I'd like to see him there against Chelsea with Adel setting up attacks centrally in the more forward 3 man midfield in a 4-2-3-1. For me Joey is no substitute for Adel, but would be better in a defensive anchor behind him - him or Derry.
Joey Barton dismisses England as 'southern, elitist' club | Football | guardian.co.uk Joey Barton has condemned the England team as an "elitist, southern-based club" that most people in the country no longer connect to. The Queen's Park Rangers midfielder rang Absolute Extra's Rock'n'Roll Football phone-in show on Saturday evening, to join a discussion with hosts Ian Wright and Ian Stone about Rangers' 1-1 draw against Blackburn Rovers, during which he went on to dismiss his chances of securing an England call-up and air his frustrations with the set-up at Wembley. Asked by Wright whether he might be picked by Fabio Capello, Barton said: "No … I'm not bleating about it, at the end of the day I'm playing for QPR, I'm playing in the Premier League, you know, I'm far from hard done by, but it would have been nice to play for England. "I've played well enough over the last 18 months for them to select me, he's [Capello's] chosen not to, so for me I'm planning on going away and playing golf and watching the [European] Championships on TV, and no doubt being massively let down by an England side coming home quite early." He added: "I mean, my massive issue with England, or Team England as it's now known, is it is now an elitist, southern-based team. "I mean, it's neat to have Wembley, you know, but why should England specifically play there? How can you be passionate about England if you live in Newcastle and you've got to travel over 200 miles, or if you live in Carlisle. I mean, they've become an elitist, southern-based club, and for me I think your average Englishman really doesn't care about England any more." Barton called for the England team to tour the country again, as they did when Wembley was being redeveloped. "I felt England really came back or became a part of the nation again when Sven was in charge and they toured while Wembley was getting built," he said. On domestic matters, Barton also had harsh words for his QPR team-mate Adel Taarabt, who stormed out of Craven Cottage after being substituted in the recent defeat at Fulham. "You know, if I was Adel and I had Adel's ability I'd be not wanting to come up short having not worked hard enough, and I think a lot of the time … I mean, that game, Ian, he was told he was a genius; I've yet to see it, and I don't know whether that's because he doesn't work hard enough or whether he tends to sulk. "I mean, I'm happy that he's upset really because it shows he does care, but there's a way of doing it." iReader
