As the on loan QPR man gears up for a potential debut for Marseille in their Europa League tie with Fenerbahce tonight why should all of us, fans of the divisive Twitter enthusiast or not, wish him a success on his French voyage?

He has obviously been a divisive and contentious character in the English game for many a season but now Joseph Barton is across the pond plying his trade on loan at Marseille in Ligue 1 and this Thursday he seems set to make his debut for the club after working hard in training and being eligible for the Europa League despite his ban for the various well known misdemeanours that occurred on the final day of the season against Manchester City.

He has obviously done wrong in his life and the things he has done are not commendable whether that be viciously assaulting Ousmane Dabo on the training ground or punching Morten Gamst Pedersen in the abdomen.

Yet he does realise the error of his ways and has battled addictions with drink and drugs through the Sporting Chance clinic and football is supposed to be a sport full of second chances and such; so I am pretty certain that whoever you are, success in France for Joseph would be of benefit to you.

He is going to struggle to maintain a place in the team at the moment, who have started the season in such a magnificent fashion, cementing themselves as genuine title contenders even this early into a campaign but if he does force a way into the team then for the likes of me, a bit of a closeted Barton fan for his open and candid approach to the sport, it will be great as he will be finally be getting recognition on the football pitch, playing in a foreign country and hopefully being revered by some of the best fans on the planet.

However, if you are part of the Joey Barton hate-club, which is understandable and of course football is a sport run on opinion of which everybody is entitled to, then success in Marseille for the QPR man is perfect for you as well.

If he is a hit with the fans, then Marseille will sign him, they are a powerful and magnificent mob in the South of France and then he will be living in France permanently and perhaps might never play in England again; becoming a man of the continent, perhaps in the vein of Tony Cascarino, himself a divisive character in the UK who is held in high regard for his spells with L’OM and Nancy, affectionately nicknamed ‘Tony Goal’.

So we should all hope that Barton’s spell in France is a success; as if you are a fan of his you will be pleased to see him succeeding, and if you aren’t you may have finally seen the back of him.

It is a win-win situation, non?

I hope he does very well in France, Marseilles offer us £5 million for him at the end of the season, we accept and he never wears the hoops again, twits only in french and get run over by a citroen CV6, not that he is killed, just hurt.

Feck him, I hope he has a stinker. This of course won't help our chances of permenantly getting rid of him, but I can wish him no good.

    Barton started.
Fenerbahce scored after 29 mins and added a second after 57 mins.

    Barton substituted after 71 minutes.
Marseilles score on 83 minutes and equalize 4 minutes into stoppage time!

Good away point; reminds me of our win against Liverpool, we were losing 2-0 until Joey was substituted too. That's why they wanted him, he can do that at will!!
