An excerpt from an article in today's Sunday Express Under current legislation, Barton, 29, who joined the club on a free transfer from Newcastle last August, is unlikely to be able to claim any compensation if dismissed â or anything else for that matter. As it stands, the law affords him no legal rights to sue QPR for unfair dismissal because he hasnât been employed by the club for 12 months. New rules have also increased that qualifying period to two years. http://www.express.co.uk/posts/view/322789/Mark-Hughes-has-final-say-on-Joey-Barton-fate-
True but looking at the facts. Employment law angle is correct, I would imagine Hughes will have final say and fact is name an English club that would give him another chance. I think despite it being the gutter press this is likely to be fairly accurate. I think the only flaw is whether the increase in qualifying period to 2 years is retrospective to current employees or only from employees taken on after the change date. On the whole the story is just speculation anyway.
