Joey Barton has announced he is making himself available again for England selection after watching the team's dismal display at the World Cup.

The Queens Park Rangers midfielder retired from international football in May 2013, causing a stir with his announcement given he had only ever played a quarter of an hour for England, in a friendly against Spain six years earlier.

He had a good season helping the London club to promotion to the Premier League through the playoffs and wrote on Twitter he believes he is capable of playing at international level.

"After reviewing England's performance at the WC, I have decided to renounce my international retirement," he said.

"Having seen the standard, I believe it's possible. Having played at the level before I feel I am a better player now than when I was capped.

That should scupper any hopes the Germans have of becoming the dominant force in world football.

I took this as nothing more than a stunt to emphasise how **** he thinks England are.

Absolutely. He's not saying I'm so good I deserve to be in the England team. He's saying England are so crap they might as well pick me. One of the better Bartonisms in my book.

I am not sorry but I can't stand the man, he was ok for us but his constant babble of psuedo intellect is just crap, he is not the most intelligent person to play football and he is no way the most talented, there was no sarcasm involved with this just willful self promoting ego paraded across the twattersphere, as bad as Stephen Fry.
