Couldn't happen to a nicer bloke, hope the guy that punched him didn't hurt his knuckle.

He needs to grow up. Surely he realises that all he's doing is making a proper berk of himself.

    He's an international grade twerp.

Ah, point taken, it was after 05:00 and therefore open season on footballers with wags. It's why so few become milkmen in later life and why Justin Whittle needs to be careful on his post round.

What is a ' professional ' footballer doing out on the lash at half five in the morning?
It's hardly the same as someone grafting is it?

From what SSN are reporting he was goaded, which fair enough isn't on.

Don't you think it's about time Barton learnt to walk away though? All he's doing by being out in Liverpool city centre at half five in the morning is leaving himself wide open to this kind of incident.

No doubt some will say he's free to come and go as he pleases, it's a free country after all but it just lacks basic common sense to me.

He's been down the road once for assaulting someone in the very same area, you'd think he'd know better.

    The bloke is a dick.

Where does it say he was out on the lash, or even that he'd had a drink? For all we know he could have just been going passed the Club (which may even have been closed).

It's the closed season, he's entitled to do as he pleases. To imply he deserves it is the same logic as saying a woman is fare game to all if she's been promiscuous and wears short skirts.

I don't like what I see of the bloke, but I think witch hunts and rough justice are a primitive and worse than the things you're accusing him of.

I am no fan of Barton, but Party Hull! also does not condone thuggery.

I get the feeling that Barton might have been the victim in this one.

His reputation is all his own making, but I think it sounds like the trouble found him, rather than him finding it.

There's probably quite a few out there willing to take a pop at someone like him if they get the chance.

Anyone who condones what happened to him, equally condones everything Barton's done.

The morons that attacked him, would have just attacked someone else if he hadn't been around.

Where have I said he deserved it??

What I am saying is common sense would suggest he avoids being in / outside nightclubs at half five in the morning.

When was the last time you walked by a nightclub at half five in the morning sober ?

    Or pissed for that matter.

About 2 days ago as it happens. If you're not implying he deserved it, you're doing a bloody good impression.

I've just double checked my posts and I'm struggling to see where I said I condoned him being filled in.

The very point I'm making is that by being out at that time he is putting himself into potentially troublesome situations because the people around him are likely to be tanked up.
In the real world certain people act like arse holes when pissed and look to start fights.

Trust me when I say I certainly don't condone this behaviour but it does go on he should know that.

Now I wasn't there, and neither were you so we both don't know what happened.
But what really makes me think he may have deserved his slap is the fact that, at this moment in time, he doesn't want to press charges?
    Why?
    Just consider this,
If you were completely innocent and enjoying a night out with the Mrs (or Mr- whatever floats your boat?) and the two knobs who just gave you a prod were in Police custody, would you push for charges to be pressed to prevent them repeating the offence? Or, would you brush it under the carpet because you have track record of acting like a ****?
