Don't go near the water, Joe. http://www.dailystar.co.uk/news/view/251514/Michael-Barrymore-I-ll-cure-Joey-Barton-demons-awight-/
FOOTBALL hothead Joey Barton was last night offered help tackling his demons by Michael Barrymore. The disgraced telly star, 60, contacted the QPR captain after seeing his Twitter rant at England legends Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer. Barton branded Lineker, 51, an "odious little toad" and Shearer, 41, a "prick" after their comments about his sending-off in Sunday's crucial game at Manchester City on Match Of The Day. Hours later, Barrymore sent the midfielder the message: "Hello Joey, you ok?" Later, when asked if he would like to advise Barton, Barrymore replied: "It would be a pleasure!" Barrymore last hit the headlines in December when he was fined £780 for possessing cocaine. Last night he was unavailable for comment. Lineker laughed off Barton's Twitter threat to reveal 'skeletons' he claimed he knew were in the MotD host's closet. He said: "I don't think it warranted a response. He's in enough trouble. He doesn't need me to help him. He's helping himself. It was just completely scurrilous nonsense." "I've been around for a long time now and I actually had a good look in my closets yesterday and the only thing I could find were a couple of packets of crisps." Shearer, who once managed Barton at Newcastle, stood by his TV remarks. "I wasn't critical," he said."All I said was that he has done it before and he will do it again. I don't want to talk about him, to be honest." ----------------------------- Joey's right, of course, but his timing was dreadful. Does he really need to state the bleedin' obvious? Nice plug for crisps by lineker - should make him a few thousand.
Everyone knows about Gary's skeletons. Our of all this fiasco it's the one sensible thing Joey has said. By the same token blind squirrels find nuts now and then to.
According to the Times, the PFAs Gordon Taylor was contacted by Mike Rigg BEFORE last Sunday to discuss Barton and his behavior, and Barton has declined the clubs legal support in his response to the FA, due in about now. Taylor seemed to have given up on him too. Sounds like ties are being cut to me. Hooray.
I would think there's a strong possibility of a 'gross misconduct' dismissal particularly based on the Twitter comments, the fact he's approached Mel Stein suggests he's in deep sh*t...
Ive had a reason for the behaviour in the back of my mind for a long time. Maybe Barrymore is the perfect person for him to talk to.
Very interesting development, please can I throw the first stone? By the way SB, do you change to an American spell checker when you are in Pittsburgh?
