I'm sure a lot of people will be wondering whether it is a sign of tensions on the football executive board.

I think people read far too much into the executive board, he was effectively chief scout.
I'd say he's been removed from the role as he has left immediately. Normally if someone is looking to leave they have to honor their notice period. He also doesn't seem to be moving anywhere else.
unless someone with any inside knowledge has any juices peices of info I think this will be chalked up as a poor fit and we move on
I've always felt that scouting wise the network is more important that the man at the top of it.

I had no idea Chester had left.

To be fair he fully deserves the chop, the signings have only just short of a complete disaster.

Grabban, Cuellar, Ofoe, Lafferty, O'Neil (although I quite like him) and of course the non existent Miquel. I'd have though Grandles would be getting close to playing considering he was a million quid. I suspect he's not good enough (being Scottish and all)

Hands up who would rather have the 8/9 million quid than that lot,

Its the players who got us relegated who are saving us this season.

Grabban, although clearly not a top flight footballer, combines several useful things that we have been lacking since his injury. I would still sign him (unless not signing him meant we had got Calum Wilson). Otherwise I agree with you.

You're not wrong Carrabuh, though I'd tend to agree with Bath that Grabban's been decent enough all told, though if we get promoted he's going to need to improve a lot.

I'd also add Andreu, though tbf that was a Neil acquisition.

I can understand him signing Andreu just to have somebody he trusts at the club and who understands him. Even if he hardly plays I can see a justification.

True, I more meant as in someone who can hardly be considered a resounding transfer success. I also wonder whether it was to keep Hamilton Accies on side...

Seems a strange one with Simmonds, but he wasn´t appointed under Neil´s management, perhaps he wants more of a say in who his chief scout is, only natural really, I suppose.

I'd say it is more to do with the crap value we bought.Neill has looked at them and thought something was up.

I'd say AN has made a bit of a 'silk purse out of a sow's ear' - especially with the likes of Whittaker!!

Re. Grabban, like so many players just below the top tier, he has a fatal flaw. (If Snodgrass had pace, if Redmond had a brain, if Johnson could do a simple pass efficiently when that is all that's required, etc). If Grabban could finish clinically, he could cope with the Premiership from what I've seen. He certainly has the knack of getting into the right place at the right time, and he works incredibly hard for the team in order to stretch defences. In many ways, he seems the opposite of Hooper, who has a lot more natural ability than Grabban but for some reason only seems to turn up when he feels like it. (That's probably unfair, but for me he has been a big disappointment this season in a league where his natural ability should shine through.)
