I posted a question on here a week or so ago asking about morals and buying tickets from tout sites (thanks for the various replies - all v helpful).

Before I took the plunge and reached for the credit card I had a scrape around the insides of my brain to see if there was any other way I thought I might have half a chance of getting tickets for the Final. I remembered that a mate of mine had once done some work for Barry Fry and would probably have a way of contacting him; he did and gave me BF`s mobile number.

I grew a pair and called him up

    "Hi, Is that Barry Fry?"
    "Yes - whose calling"
"[][][][] - my mate [][][][] did some work for you a few years ago and he gave me your number. I know this is totally out of the blue and you can tell me to bugger off if you want but [family history, life long Sunderland supporters, can`t get a ticket...etc] I was calling on the off chance that you might know where I might be able to get hold of any tickets for the final"
    "How many you after?"
"4 would be perfect but 2 would be just fine"
"Send me a text with your details and leave it with me and I`ll see what I can do"

I thought/feared he was just being polite and that I would never hear from him again - until this morning...

    "Hello - is that [][][][]?"
    "Yes, is that Barry"
"Sure is cocker - those tickets you wanted are in, can you pop round and pick them up from the ground?"
"WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW - on my way, what do I owe you?"
"Just what it cost me - can`t remember the precise figure but they were £90 each plus a booking fee - I`ve got to pop out but ask for my secretary and she`s got them"

I have just got back from London Road; have met his secretary - I have 4 tickets in my pocket (block 121 row 6) and my wallet is down face value for the tickets.

I know he is not the most popular face in football but I have to say that he has come up trumps for me and I owe him big style - my brother should be over the moon as will the kids.

BARRY FRY - THANK YOU SO SO MUCH - TOP FELLA - A BIG BOTTLE OF SOMETHING THANK YOU SHAPED IS ON ITS WAY

See you boys at Wembley - my faith in Football and foootball people is a long way to being restored...

It worked for - for those who are away from the North East think long and hard about even the remotest link you have to a club, pick up the phone and see what you can do.

BF has no association I am aware of with SAFC but he helped me out - ex pro`s might be able to put you in touch with the right person at their old club...you just never know - can`t harm

That's absolutely fantastic, by the way.

Credit to you for the idea, and to him for actually sorting it out.

Always thought he was a dickhead, but bravo big man.

Top story mate and well done for having the balls to call the bloke up, never really had an opinion on BF before now to be honest but he's just gone up in my estimation.

Great story - I never like Barry Fry's way of working as a bossin football but, when he was sitting in the studio, he simply struck me as "one of the lads" - seemed to talk just like I would expect to talk if I was there (only with a different accent!).

Over the moon for you mate

Obviously I would not want to upset the politically correct fraternity by commenting on her physical attributes as that could be interpreted as demeaning her. As she told me that it was her who made the phone calls and did the ticket getting organisation I would have to say though that she is an angel sent from heaven with a good soul, a kind heart and a deep understanding of human kind.

She also had a decent pair of jugs
