I'll do this quickly, as given the hour, I imagine there may be a couple of us worried about the absence of a thread. All I ask in payment is that you refer to me as Belvedere Addick for 24 hours, or until the man himself is among us again. Always had a soft spot for Barnsley, as they have a feel of a northern versión of us, and we have had some cracking games in the past. The most recent one is the one I'm sure everyone connected with Barnsley would like to erase, the famous 6-0 from last season. The fact is we hit them at a point when we were (finally) on a roll, and they were getting anxious about the drop, but while I did'nt see the match, the stats afterwards suggested that it was one of those games when everything went right for us, and wrong for them. I imagine theyll be up for this one, as revenge would be sweet so son after the event, but we should go there looking to kick start our season too, so while I hate predicting, I'll go for a 1-1 draw, with Church hopefully to start, and a more fluid performance from our misfiring midfield.
Cheers for doing this Ken!! Not sure- my confidence is going back and forth. I had us down for an away win on one of my accums, but removed them. This makes me more confident. 0-2. Sordell and church.
Thanks Ken! I've already gone for a 'batten down the hatches' goalless draw and that's what I'm sticking with. We must take at least a point, or confidence is going to be very difficult to regain.
For Barnsley this will be seen as a game they should be winning at home! BUT it's my Birthday today so we'll win in a thrilling manner that fully warrents the 47 seconds highlight reel on The Football League Show tonight. Also Chrissy, what (or who) is your Avatar?
Is Lisa Snowden... Apparently Dave Berry has been on at her to do that pic for ages now Gonna go for a tight 2-1 win to Charlton Twitter is saying that the teams will be released shortly and there has been a short video of Pigott getting off the coach with Wilson and Hamer Happy Birthday Kish
No surprises in the Team today? - Hamer, Wiggins, Solly, Dervite, Morrison (C), Wilson, Harriott, Gower, Stephens, Church, Kermorgant Subs Pope, Evina, Cort, Green, Cousins, Sordell, Pigott
Green binned yet again after 3/4s of a game. Ho hum. Good to see church in before Sod All. Depends how bad Barnsley are but I expect nothing from this.
Quite surprised that Cousins is in ahead of Hollands... I know I've been calling for Cousins to at least be on the bench for a few weeks but after CP said Stephens could go if a Northern club came in, does anyone think that Hollands could also be on his way by the end of August (surely on loan at the very least)
First thing that comes to my mind thinking of Barnsley is Neil Redfearn. So brilliant for them and so crap for us straight afterwards. A combination of nostalgia for the slagheaps and legs gone. He was 33 when he signed for us and had left everything on the pitch for Barnsley. The guy played for 20 different professional and semi-pro clubs, never going back to one, to the age of 43. All the evidence points to 2-0 to Barnsley today. But we managed to come up with more unlikely wins last season when we seemed on the slide, so we can only hope. Pleased to see Green and Sordell out and Wilson back in. Not pleased to see Gower and Stephens paired in CM. Not much stopping power there. Would have preferred Hollands. If either fails to perform, Cousins on at HT (or sooner).
I think Hollands will be off before the end of the transfer window. Good to see Cousins being given a chance.
Should have been Cousins and Stephens in the middle, but CP will feel obliged to play our 'marquee' signing of Gower. But, whatever happens today, Pritchard will be back in the side for the Doncaster match at the expense of either Wilson or Stephens. Personally, I would have given Green another crack at the first eleven, but I can understand CP's need for defensive cover on the right. Church to score in a 1-0 win for the Addicks. Anything less will leave us fragile for next week, what with Donny beating Blackburn last night.
Bale will be a marquee signing. Halfords offer a plastic tent (of sorts) for under 20 quid. That's Gower.
Cheers for the Birthday wishes Apparently Charlton haven't lost the first 3 league games since 1990. Well that's the year I was born sadly! So this could be fate.
Just listened to CP interview on 94.9. He's barely disguising how sh1t things are. Talking himself towards the sack if he's not careful. We appear to be getting bumped btw. 1-0 and only Hamer saving us.
I owe Stephens an apology. He has put Perkins out of the game with a fierce but fair tackle. Probably Barnsley's best player with Jennings unavailable. Charlton totally overrun for 30 minutes and only a double save from Hamer keeps it down to 1-0. We are coming into it a bit more now. Pigott and Cousins on at HT please to provide a bit more energy.
CP heard you Eddie... Cort and Cousins on for Dervite and Stephens Time for Cousins to nail down his place in that Midfield... He won't get a better chance
CP must be either angry or desperate. Two subs at HT are hardly his style. A few earlier subs last season might have won us four more points to get into the play-offs. Surprised it was Stephens to come off rather than Gower, but perhaps he took a knock in that crunching tackle with Perkins? Oops! Another goal conceded because of our vacuum in CM. 0-2 (as I predicted). Cheer up! We are still above Millwall!
