Hello and welcome to the all new and improved Match day Hub which is now the official place for Gillingham fans, I decided to update this so that you will know where to go and chat before and during the game. I always post this a few days before the match so you can start to create a debate before the game on what you think will happen in the upcoming game, you can post who you think should play in the game and why. In addition to that you may share with us what you think the team will be that plays as that may be different to the team which you think should play, if you think a certain player should not play you can share with us the reason why as it is good to know what the fans think about the team and why certain players should not be in the team if you want to tell us why. So all you need to do is post your starting 11 plus the 7 which you think will be on the bench, you may be correct or not but it don't matter as no points are awarded it is just for fun. If I am not at the game I will normally post updates about what is going on and the team which is playing, but when I go to games I write up a match report afterwards. You can post freely during and after the game sharing your opinion with us on the result and what you thought of the players who played. If you go to the game it would be great if you could write up a match day report telling up what you think of the result and what you rate each player out of 10 giving a reason why. This is open to both Gillingham fans and also the opposition, don't be afraid to post just because you are not a Gills fan if it is friendly banter that is allowed. Have fun and debate freely! Just want to add aswell if you do any bets you can share with us what you think is the best bet, I do bets each week so I will share them with you if you want.
A lot of predictions like my own seemingly thinking we are going to thump Barnet tomorrow in the top v bottom of the table clash. Sadly though this is generally where it all goes wrong, so a big ask of the lads tomorrow to show that we are worthy of maintaining our position. The problem is Barnet with the likes of Mark Robson - Barry Fuller, Curtis Weston and Olly Lee they will know what some of our players are all about. Also visa versa. We are at the same points tally as we were under Andy Hessenthaler last season, four games and 10 points. We then only managed to pick up one point in our next four games. Those 3 points tomorrow are a lot more vital at this stage of the season then many will realise. We need to build our auto promotion foundations now for the tougher schedule ahead. Oxford (2nd) play Exeter (3rd) tomorrow so we need to take the advantage. As for my team selection, now time for a laugh... Nelson Evans Essam (ok, ok, I know - Davies then) Barrett Jackman Allen (Sorry Chris) Lee Payne Weston Keds Don't know Go on Martin Allen, I dare you to go with it and I will let you have the choice of the 2nd striker
Right I would like to see a little bit of a change just like brb and I would go with this Nelson Fish Davies Barrett Martin Allen Payne Lee Dack Kedwell Weston Subs Forecast Frampton Evans Jackman Whelpdale Birchall Strevens/ Burton I think Whelpdale should be dropped, he is one of my favourites but he has had a poor start to the season, Flanagan would not be in my team either, if Fish is actually injured then Evans comes in and Flanagan on the bench but I feel we may either go with Lee at the back and Montrose in my midfield or Flanagan there with Davies at the back. I feel Martin will want to start with Flanagan over Davies but hopefully I am wrong.
This is good now happy 2-0 but I had a bet on us to win 4-0 with keds first and a good bet on Keds first, ruined the bet LOL.
Matt Fish got injured, looks bad by the sound of it, that is really bad, a bad ankle injury, probably Flanagan on.
Barnet may not be a good team but to win against them is brilliant, we are unbeaten after playing a range of teams, we have had a few of the teams which could be boogie teams however we have won against them also we have picked up good results against three good teams in Wycombe, Chesterfield and Bradford. Teams likes Barnet and Dag & red are normally like Banana skins for us but we have managed to pick up 6 points out of 6 I really cannot think now we could have done much better other than the obvious that we could have won against Chesterfield however I feel as we go into the next two home games against Southend and Bristol Rovers we could pick up 2 more wins.
I went to Barnet today and a good three points, which is now starting to indicate some consistency after five games. Strangely I was quite pleased with the starting team selection for the first time this season and I am starting to build a better picture for my own personal choices. Surprising considering my love for wingers but sometimes such changes need to be made and I believe it was another correct decision by Martin Allen to leave Myles Weston on the bench until the 68th minute. Quite ecstatic and easy chant from some of the fans when we went 2-0 up. However, 11 minutes in and 2-0 up is always going to be subject to its problems and that dreaded complacency. Barnet were poor in the fact that if they had taken their chances and if they had been a better team we could and should have been more up against it. Stronger teams will exploit our weaknesses at some point this season but if we continue with this fantastic run and other results keep going in our favour, we will have built up a sufficient standing to afford the less favourable times that may come ahead. MOM for me was Deon Burton and purely from what I have seen today, Burton and Keds have cemented their starting line up for the next home game. To see Burton bring the ball down the way he did was a class above League Two and a pleasure to watch. Keds as usual did not stop although a bit more controlled and added to his seasons tally again. For ever positive of today, as a supporter I can not but help express my honesty or just plain personal opinion on looking ahead and the positions of left and right back. Joe Martin scored some positive points from me today and you all know I don't say that lightly! Maybe because the right back position was distracting my attention. When you have miles of space be positive have confidence and exploit it. There was a point in the second half that happened but it did not happen enough. Barnet's number eleven Holmes was an absolute handful, either very good or exploiting any weaknesses in that area. I was pleased with Charlie Allen yet again and he should rightly keep his place, I think he has already been my man of the match twice this season. If anything I just want him to be a bit more selfish and a bit more alert when Keds plays the ball back to him (positioning). Charlie Lee was unlucky not to get on the score sheet in the second half with a superb header. Nelson was not really tested with Barnet's poor finishing. Excellent goal by Payne. The finished article no but stuff that can be worked on and anyway we are top the league for now. 3-1 probably flattered us somewhat but then Barnet are no Chesterfield. All said and done, sun, beer, football and 3 points, what more could I want on our travels. ps. forgot to mention the fantastic support today and somehow an area of safe standing needs to be brought to Priestfield. Such a pleasure to watch from the terracing.
What was Whelpdale like today, was he is the game more or is he still not at his best, wondering what has happened to him this season?
Missed yesterdays game as it was my wife's birthday! Was in London doing the restaurant, theatre and hotel stuff! Just want to say it was another excellent result and I hope all those who went had a great day! Up the Gills!!
