i think the same about the trophy. we, along with barnet were 1 of a handful of teams who were favourites. we had a very realistic chance of getting to wembley and winning it. but we lost. thats not what bothers me. it was the shambolic performance that bothers me. it was and still is very worrying that out players played like a complete bunch of strangers who only just learnt the rules the hour before kick off. that was the worse performance that i have witnessed in many a year. worse than the worse of last seasons shocking performances. fair shout to bath. they deserved it.
as for tonights result at barnet, its no real surprise to be honest. just look at the team that faced torquay less than 2 weeks ago.... Graham Stack; Andy Yiadom, Bondz N’Gala, Jack Saville, Elliott Johnson; Mauro Vilhete, Sam Togwell, Curtis Weston, Lee Cook; John Akinde, Charlie MacDonald (c). and compare it to tonights line up.... Sam Cowler; Harry Taylor, Joe Gater, Charlie Kennedy, Tamille Roache; Adam Mekki, David Hunt (c), Wesley Fonguck, Luke Gambin; Bernard Mensah, Mathew Stevens. barnet played a complete different starting 11 tonight to what they would usually play in the league that has seen them run away at the top of the league. they fielded 6 youth players tonight who were making their 1st team debuts. they didnt take the game seriously and paid the price. we did take it seriously and fielded a strong side showing we were taking ot seriously. i think our result is more embarrassing taking the facts into consideration
A bit of both really on one hand it proves to some Gasheads that it wasn't the end of the world going out of it but the other it means Barnet will only have the league to concentrate on instead of a fixtures back log
its not that we went out that has made some gasheads angry, its the manor of the way we went out. that performance was unacceptable and unforgiving. if we had played well and lost then no complaints from me. but we were a complete bag of s**te. if our players were animals they would have been shot dead at full time to be put out of their misery. barnet are just concentrating on the league which they proved by their team line up last night. thay had no interest in the fa trophy. if we had fielded a youth team like barnet and we lost then i would have been ok with that as that would show we only want to concentrate on the league. but we fielded a strong side. a side capable of being in the play offs in our league and capable of surviving in league 2 as well. but they didnt perform at all. they were a embarrassment. that performance has really put in to doubt our capabilities of a play off place. also DC said the players were ashamed after the game. will we see signs of players on a downer on friday or will we see signs of players wanting to correct their shocking performance last saturday. i know if the players dont hit the ground running on friday then we will struggle big time and the fans will show their frustrations too. we all need a performance on friday to help put the bath performance (not result) behind us.
I respect everyone has a different opinion of the match but it just doesn't really bother me I didn't even really listen to the game the players probably thought it would be a walk over and obviously it didn't turn out that way. We've had a much worse cup moment in are history then Saturday remember Hitchin Town
All the teams in this competition have a right to be there. There are no easy cup games, although fair play to Concord Rangers. It's kind of on a par with MK Dons thrashing Man Utd...they were featured on 5 Live for a cricket score in the last round too...
of course everyone has their own opinion . i was just responding to your comment that it wasnt the end of the world getting knocked out. personally being a rovers fan, im use to losing more than winning! im use to getting knocked out of cup games. as long we put in 100% then i will have no complaints : win, lose or draw. im not bothered about getting knocked out. im bothered about the performance.
