A lot of people are saying this tonight. It makes no sense to me, Barmby came on and succeeded in linking up the play and creating space, Simpson came on with the job of scoring what chances came his way and he ****ed it up. Yet everyone is claiming Barmby shouldn't have been on and Simpson should have been given longer. Where is the logic here?
Barmby did nothing. He didn't even do his usual angry little man routine, he just did... nothing. Basically, he's not very good and shouldn't be playing at all. He should just do the decent thing and retire.
We started taking control of the game when he came on, he allowed our linkup football to work. Even if I was to accept that Barmby was bad (which I'm not) how can you claim Simpson should have been given longer? All he did was fail in what he was brought on to do. Anyone who doesn't hate Barmby?
i do like nicky a lot but he was dire tonight that has to be the most i've seen him give the ball away
I thought all the giving away of the ball was going on in the first half, and it stopped when we brought him on.
no chance he just floated around tried a couple of flicks (one daft backheel) but he definatley wasnt anywhere near his normal standard
It was a proper fukin mistake bringing him on. I hate it when a manager moves players all over. Take Ade off bring Simpson on. Dont start moving people all over. That brilllliant cross from Brady i reckon Simpson would have knocked it in. Still happy with the display lets hope NP doesnt bottle it and go all defensive again, I posted in preseason Fryatt looked lethargic, yet you all believed that tool Theo. Same with TC and Mckenna. Mckenna is **** he does nothing.
Pearson should have started Simpson, that's my main issue with tonight, not the tripe I've seen spouted elsewhere on the board, we need strikers who can score and Fryatt can't do it all himself.
Cannot really judge on one showing but we do not have strikers who are 'above average' in this league. Matty needs the ball laid on for him as he lacks a yard or two in pace. Simpson is a 'tap-in' artist and cannot finish. Adebola is a 'totem-pole' whilst McLean is another who is a few sandwiches short of a picnic. Let's hope they can all improve out of sight.
You have to hand it to Percy, he is not always wrong. Barmby is so far past his sell by date he is valued in pounds and shillings. Will we ever see him in a city shirt again? of course we will.
Got to agree with ISTPLT, I'm not a massive believer in Nicky contributing a huge amount this season.....but up until that point in the game (with Adebola up front) we were giving away possession, hump long balls over what seemed a none existent midfield and our retention of possession was minimal. Bringing Nicky on, though I disagreed with it at the time, brought a bit more fluidity to our game - more movement up top (need that be said compared to Adebola), more attempt to play a passing game that involved our midfield and we started to take control of the game and was very unlucky not to take one of the guilt edged chances that came about because of this play.
