Let's be honest, it was a thankless task and SOD took it on, forget who's to blame or who's fault it is, the previous manager, the current manager, the board, the players, one things for certain it's not the supporters and they have a right to ask for answers and action's whilst there is still a chance... Players have been sold, players are out on loan, we have some serious injuries, our squad is depleted and we are down to the marrow let alone the bare bones, we have 8 games remaining, 24 possible points, we need a minimum of 13 taking us to 52 points and possible survival.. Every other team around us has added loanee players since January, we have added Bates and Howard only, not 1 signing to help with our survival, sure we've introduced organisation and team play but we need more.. Question, is our board and manager going to react to our situation and fight for our Championship status which is want we all want as fans or have they already accepted the situation and are going to let us shrivel and die in the 3rd tier.. If that's the case they will have betrayed us all, if we are to go down they must allow us to go with pride and fighting spirit.... 8 games to go............Do Something...
I said the same thing yesterday to my wife, Stead out for 5-6 weeks silence from the club all week apart from loaning out a forward? Don't make sense does it
We need a forward who can finish 1 on 1's - Steve Davies is a fabulous aquisition for us in the long run however that is 2 games running that we haven't scored when he was through on goal with just the keeper to beat and we simply cannot afford to keep missing these - Wolves would have been dead and buried at 2-0 p.s. I thought you were trying out a new recipe Wiz...
Answer - same as we always do......NOTHING The team has been crying out for a couple of quality loanees or signings since SOD arrived and yet we still get nothing. Well how about relegation then, maybe that'll focus minds in the boardroom. Incompetence rules again
I agree, we need someone to replace Stead NOW! I find it odd he said he wouldn't bring anyone unless they are better than what we already have at the club, and then brings in Howard. Good player, but I don't really see him adding much or being better than Kilkenny, Kelly, or Pearson. Look at Readings finish to the season when they got in Roberts on loan, someone who could make that kind of impact would be ideal, but I have no idea who.
All of the above comments point to a serious lack of commitment from the City board and it's been going on since we got promoted to the Championship. Did they really believe that the same squad that took us up could continue to do the necessary ad infinitum or expect some miracle to take place that would convert the lot in to contenders for the Prem? Just take a look at our losses over the last 4 years and tell me that one single penny was well spent in order to give us stability for a few years in which we could perform the rebuild. We have stumbled from one crisis to another in every aspect of the footballing business world and clearly still haven't learnt from our mistakes. When you see a team struggling, as we are, you would expect, if not demand, action from the board in an attempt to rectify the situation, but our board have continued to stick their collective heads in the sand and try and confuse the issue by giving out new statements about their agreement with the concerns of the paying public. What a lot of public relations nonsense and who do they think they are fooling? The lack of activity over the years speaks volumes about the inefficient way our club is run, and although I will agree that some reasonable players have been brought in under various managers, it is clear that the lack of improvement in our performances borders on the insane. It makes me, and a lot of others, wonder who the hell is really running the show and why we continue to rot in a relegation threatened hell. Haven't the sad lessons we have endured for too long ring any bells at Ashton Gate and it concerns me as to whether our overall condition has deteriorated from critical to life-threatening. The lack of clear thinking and rational decision making has concerned me for a long time and the obvious lack of funds, combined with our seeming reluctance to bring in the right players to right our fast sinking ship, give me great concerns about our future at all levels. I have no idea as to where we go from here.
As I've said before Mike, if Steve Lansdown ran Hargreaves Lansdown like he runs Bristol City he would a) not be the multi-multi millionaire that he is today, because b) he'd have gone bankrupt years ago. I always find it slightly odd that someone with his amount of business sense, major decision making, and overall accumen in being probably the most successful businessman that Bristol has ever seen can be so clueless when it comes to running a football club. Whilst I agree it's not a perfect match up in skills, there are lots and lots of similarities. I'm sure people will quote the stadium farce and FFP as factors but there is more to it than those
