Superb today, he has been one of the players of the season no doubt and if we don't give him a new contract were idiots. He would cost a fortune to replace.
Definitely, he rose to the occasion tonight. I have never liked him as a footballer but he is a battler.
Mad moments he had with Di Canio in charge like a lot of others. Played his heart out before Di Canio and has done so since. Deserves our support and forgiveness even it is hard to forget. Players like Bardo will give their all to keep us in the PL
This on so many levels. The guy always gives us 110% Said elsewhere on a thread about his passion. He was getting interviewed on Sky Sports after the game and their was still a wobble in his voice he was that moved. The guys a ****ing legend.
If all our players were like Phil Bardsley,we wouldn't be in the position we are in!!He is a 100% grafter..we need more like him!I am so proud of all our team tonight!!
Ive been saying for a few weeks i had fully pardoned him after the man city game not just for the goal but the shift that he puts in
Forgave him for the casino. Mocking our defeat still doesn't fit well. Sorry. He's been fantastic this season but a contract would depend on a pay cut. Hell of a lot of heart, but a Poyet team needs more technique ability then he has. He's a squad player for me. A good squad player. But not on 35k a week.
I have no need to forgive Bardo as I have always been a massive supporter of the lad. He made a poor personal decision to be photographed in the Casino but as mentioned it was handled appallingly IMO and thankfully Bardsley is the one who is still here. His outburst against PDC after the Fulham game was a personal piss take on the manager he was in dispute with not the club and since Gus brought him back, he has been outstanding for us and back to his very best. That said, I do hold him more to account for the latter than the former offence. As I have always maintained, you build teams around the likes of Bardsley and Catts because you will win nothing with a team full of Messi's but you have half a chance with a team full of Bardsleys. He is fully committed and has a massive passion and heart and fights to the end. He is also an incredibly fit athlete and his stamina tonight was immense. He deserves a new contract and I fully expect Gus to offer him one. I think he could be a rare commodity these days personally and play 10+ seasons for us. He has over 160 games for us and could easily make 300+ by the time he leaves us. He will also be a Sunderland Wembley player in 7 weeks time.
The casino thing (very silly and deserving of some form of punishment) led to the Di Canio overreaction (completely unnecessary, even if correct in principle) which led to the Fulham game outburst (very, very poor on Bardsley's part). All concerned acted poorly in my view. That said, in cases like this, it doesn't matter how you get to a point - it's about the best possible way forward. Who can deny that we've been a better team with Bardo playing? Going forward, it would make sense to hang on to him as he's clearly a half-decent enough RB in a world where they're in incredibly short supply.
Make a refreshing change from those who said he was ****e & should never play for us again, Parker where are you? The lad has always had my support.
Don't agree with the bit in bold - Barcelona is as close to "a team full of messi's" as it gets! On Bardo, I hope he's given a new contract although, as Bri says, not if he's demanding £35k / week. If we want to push on he should be a squad player, albeit a very decent one. His salary should reflect that. We need to stop letting average players take the mickey out of us because "they try hard".
