It's incredible that they have the quality in their academy players to do that but it's a bit misleading to count Messi as their academy graduate when he joined them at 14 and also include Fabregas and Pique who left when they were 16/17. Also in the PL lists Krul joined at 17 so if he counts so should plenty of others like Lennon. Anyway, there's certainly a lot to be done to improve players coming through our academies but the work has already been taking place at most clubs and some results are starting to come through and they will continue to in the coming years. The key thing is helping them then get into our first teams. The new Nextgen competition and the revamp of the reserve leagues into an under 21 development league should help with bridging the gap into the first team better but ultimately it's up to clubs to give them a chance. There is a worry that successful Nextgen teams might just become a menu for bigger clubs to pick and choose the best talent in Europe to poach but in general it's all positive.
