What is our country coming to! I can't believe that this is actually getting debated..The lunatics are taking over the asylum and it won't belong before all contact sports get banned at this rate.. Once again it seem s to be lawyers suing schools for kids getting hurt that is behind our freedoms being eroded..
Wouldnt want them to get a bruise. May interfere with playstation time. Boxing clubs and tiddlywinks next on the hit list.
I totally understand why a few would be up in arms about this sort of thing, wrapping kids up in cotton wool, etc, etc. My oldest played from about 4 for about 10-11years with a small break in between at a local club, Biggleswade RUFC. I've mentioned it on here before. A lovely young lad a year or so older than my lad, Matt King broke his neck playing for Biggy. It was in the national news. Absolutely horrendous! I hated my lad playing after that. You stand on the touchline and feel every tackle. To make matters worse, he's just started playing again up in Corby.
I remember that, mate. I've read about a few Rugby players getting serious injuries, that's a mans game. Respect to them
I coach my boys football team and have seen some nasty injuries in that at under 11! Broken arms, legs, torn tendons and one of the worst was a broken and dislocated finger for one of our defenders! Even at that level they discussed changing how the children play the game - it was thrown out by parents of the kids, including the injured ones, sayin how it was a contact sport and you can;t avoid getting injured occasionally - they said out of the hundreds of thousands of kids that play every week, less than 100 get injured. that's less than 0.1% injuries - although if it's your child (as blunham says) I guess you may feel differently about it
Was in a similar position as you Marcus, parents dont make it easy many times a heard kick the little **** back only harder.
I think the only issue is the different type of injuries that can happen in rugby compared to football. I never worried about my youngest playing football. You don't tend (in my experience) to get serious back and neck injuries in footy. Having said that I was in uni with a lad who's twin died playing football after crashing into the post. You wouldn't expect to impose safety rules after a freak accident like that though. There are also increasing concerns about the long term effects of concussion from impact sports. Jury's still out on that. I see nothing wrong with protecting kiddies from potential serious injuries until they're older and stronger enough to cope with the risks. Just my view though.
It's the minorities, little skinny Indian boys for example, turning up and they just want to study and become a doctor, they hate 'phys-ed' and they go home and cry to their stupid ****ing parents, who turn up at schools and say my boy wants to be a doctor and he's come home with a broken nose and can't concentrate on his extra studies at home... **** off then love, take your kid and **** off and teach him at home, he's **** at cricket anyhow so we don't see a use for the spotty little bastard.... while you're here, take your other 6 kids as well, they're all ****ing **** at sports.
I can understand your views but every sport has injury dangers - as long as they want to play the game we need to grin and bear it - my daughter played basketball - 2 bad foot injuries in a year - off feet for nearly a year recovery
One of my sons (who is 15) plays rugby, and it is bloody tough. however, I would much rather see him doing this rather than being on a games console all the time..
Totally agree all sports have injury dangers mate. Like I said, its the nature of injuries prevalent in rugby that's the issue. You don't go head first into rucks and mauls in basketball, football, cricket, tennis, or have the risk of a scrum collapsing on you with your head and neck suspended whilst your body is pressed downwards.
I know a school caretaker who has to sweep up fallen horse-chestnuts and burn them to discourage kids from playing conkers! It's thought that if a conker breaks during a game, a piece might go in somebody's eye.
Ffs. Whole generations not knowing about conkers. Used to pickle them for ages. So hoying rocks and sticks at trees to get them will be a no no then?
All contact sports are littered with injuries waiting to happen -even cricket can get cricket ball exocet missiles in the head, but agree the injury types are generallly much more serious in rugby -
It's all about technique, getting your head in the right position to tackle. Played rugby league and union from age of six and that's what the coaches used to drill into is.. their is the odd horrific injury but generally that's apart of all sports.. polies trying to turn into nanny state..
I played rugby at school and was once out cold after a tackle from a lad who must have gone to the comp after 5 years working down the pit instead of from junior school. A couple of weeks later I was back playing. The only time that I was actually scared playing sport at school was a mixed sex game of hockey where the lasses were absolutely mental. Injuries are part of all sports. Gymnasts suffer some horrendous injuries and that is not even a contact sport.
