4 points from 6 not bad considering todays opposition. Main worry is lack of fire power (season after season). Still its the start of little run hopefully. A long way to go as 1 point a game average so far is lower half of the table form. 5 played 5 points .
Yeah hopefully I thought we played very well still lacking a bit of punch up front but I would of took a point before the game started
I must its hard work keeping the thread updated especially when using a laptop which still has Windows XP installed luckily I had my Kindle missed not having CJS on here with me
BBC Match Report Jon Parkin's goal gave Forest Green a draw against Bristol Rovers. The visitors came closest to breaking the deadlock in the first half but home keeper Sam Russell saved Lee Mansell's free-kick and Matty Taylor's strike was rightly ruled out for offside. The Pirates took the lead in the second half when Andy Monkhouse powerfully headed home Lee Brown's cross. Parkin equalised for the hosts when he inadvertently deflected Marcus Kelly's shot past keeper Steve Mildenhall. I watched it for 10 minutes first half, I tried to stay longer but it was terrible. The weather summed up the match. Thank God we've got Lansdown.
Grimsby won 7-0 today that's 13 goals in two games what a result we had against them then. Another Match Report Forest Green Rovers 1 Parkin (68) Bristol Rovers 1 Monkhouse (56) Rovers returned home with hard earned point from their game this afternoon and can consider themselves unfortunate not to have taken all three. Once again there were encouraging signs that this team is growing into the season and the performance today was another improvement on Saturday’s showing against AFC Telford United. Leading through an Andy Monkhouse goal scored in the 56th minute, Rovers were pegged back when Jon Parkin scored a fortuitous equaliser 12 minutes later. Whilst it was an excellent team performance, Rovers really controlled the game in midfield where Clarke and Mansell, in particular, excelled. Manager Darrell Clarke had the luxury of naming an unchanged team for this afternoon’s fixture. There was just one change on the bench, where Stuart Sinclair was included at the expense of Daniel Leadbitter. Danny Coles and David Pipe faced their former team this afternoon, as did Sinclair’s brother Rob. Rovers were awarded an early free kick and Lee Mansell went close with a curling effort that Sam Russell touched behind for the game’s first corner. At the other end a glancing header from Lee Hughes was comfortably cleared by Rovers. With Rovers controlling the midfield chances for the home side were few and far between for the home side. Dave Martin tried his luck with a long range effort that drifted wide of the target, while Ollie Clarke, no doubt buoyed by his goal on Saturday, saw his shot blocked at the expense of a corner. Mansell went close again when his looping header from Lee Brown’s cross landed on top of the net and Brown blazed an ambitious effort wide of goal. There was some delightful one touch football played down the left by Rovers some six minutes from the half time whistle, and MattyTaylor managed to get the ball in the net once the ball was played into the area. Unfortunately, he had strayed into an offside position and his effort was disallowed. Another Taylor effort was deflected behind but the home side had the final chance of the half when Sinclair’s attempted header to the back post just cleared the crossbar. After controlling the opening second half exchanges Rovers took the lead when Monkhouse headed past Russell from Lee Brown’s cross. Ten minutes later Taylor was unfortunate not to double the lead, but his powerful header from a Monkhouse cross produced an excellent reaction save from Russell. However the home side equalised when Rovers didn’t really deal with a cross from the left. It was played back in after Steve Mildenhall had palmed away the initial ball in and the keeper was beaten by a deflected shot that went in off of Parkin. Lee Hughes and Coles then had chances to score again for Forest Green and Mildenhall made a superb save from Marcus Kelly’s free kick. There were late chances for Rovers, but Brown’s free kick was just wide of the upright and Trotman’s header just cleared the crossbar. Rovers: Steve Mildenhall, Tom Lockyer, Tom Parkes, Neal Trotman, Lee Brown, Andy Monkhouse, Ollie Clarke, Lee Mansell, Dave Martin (Stuart Sinclair, 78), Adam Cunnington (Ellis Harrison, 49), Matty Taylor (Jamie White, 84) Substitutes: Jake Gosling, Will Puddy. Yellow Cards: Lockyer, Trotman Forest Green: Sam Russell, David Pipe, Chris Stokes, Luke Oliver, Sam Wedgbury, Lee Hughes (Luke Rodgers, 81), Clovis Kamdjo, Elliott Frear (Marcus Kelly, 59), Robert Sinclair (James Norwood, 59), Jon Parkin, Danny Coles. And Another The first ever league meeting between... ....Forest Green Rovers and Bristol Rovers ended honours even in front of the BT Sport cameras on Bank Holiday Monday lunchtime in the Vanarama Conference. In constant rain, it was the visiting Rovers who almost had the perfect start when, inside the opening minute, a foul by Luke Oliver on loan signing Adan Cunnington produced a free-kick that skipper Lee Mansell bent goalwards, producing a fine save from Forest Green keeper Sam Russell. However, that was almost it as far as goal action was concerned in a disappointing first half littered with bookings and wayward passes. But the second period was much more exciting and end-to-end. And in the 55th minute Bristol Rovers were rewarded for a much brighter start with the opening goal. A great left-footed cross by Lee Brown was headed down and in off the inside of the post and past a flailing Russell by Andy Monkhouse (pictured). Forest Green responded by bringing on Marcus Kelly and James Norwood and they seemed to pep up the home side. But on 64 minutes the visiting Rovers almost doubled their lead when former Forest Green striker Matty Taylor got on the end of a Tom Lockyer cross, but saw Russell produce a fine save. At the opposite end, Chris Stokes perhaps should have done better when a loose ball ran to him on the edge of the box and he hit his shot over the bar and out of the ground. On 68 minutes though Forest Green did equalise in somewhat fortunate fashion as Kelly`s shot took a massive deflection off big Jon Parkin and wrong-footed Steve Mildenhall in the Bristol goal. In the 75th minute Danny Coles headed another Kelly cross wide and a couple of minutes later came the best move of the match. A great crossfield ball by Norwood found Lee Hughes on the right. The experienced striker pushed through an equally exquisite pass to Parkin, whose shot was well blocked by Mildenhall. Mildenhall did well again 5 minutes from time when he pushed a Kelly free-kick round the post and then in the dying embers of the game, Lee Brown`s left-footed free-kick at the other end drifted inches wide. A draw was just about right on a day when the second 45 minutes certainly rescued things from an entertainment perspective.
Much improved performance....Trotman MoM for me too. Definite 4-4-2 throughout the game. There was a long period of play when I thought we might nick it. Everyone played quite well or better, apart from Parkes who is really off his game. Glad I was in the North 'Stand' with a roof...excellent pitch though.
One More Bristol Rovers completed a successful Bank Holiday schedule by producing perhaps their best performance of the season so far to claim a point off big spending Forest Green Rovers in front of a packed New Lawn this afternoon. Under-fire for much of the week after losing at Altrincham nine days ago, the Rovers players responded by securing their first win of the season against AFC Telford on Saturday and followed with another promising display that is certain to earn those inside the camp a brief period of respite following a difficult start to the season. Rovers boss Darrell Clarke, meanwhile, will probably feel hard done by not to be making the short trip back down the M5 with all three points after watching his team be the better of the two sides for much of a competitive 90 minutes in front of a record-breaking crowd at Forest Green’s neat and tidy stadium. When Andy Monkhouse scored his first goal for Rovers with a neatly-placed downward header in the 55th minute the stage was set for Rovers to go on and take the game by the scruff of the neck against a team that had utterly failed to live up to their ‘favourites for promotion’ tag for much of what had preceded. To Forest Green’s credit, however, they raised their game in the aftermath of going behind and probably deserved their 67th minute equaliser regardless of the fortunate way in which Marcus Kelly’s initial shot had deflected off Jon Parkin to leave Steve Mildehall wrong-footed in the Rovers goal. Clarke, meanwhile, had labelled his side as the ‘underdogs’ just prior to kick-off – but based on the evidence of the opening exchanges it was difficult to determine exactly which of these two teams were the unbeaten one. Rovers almost took the lead inside the opening minute after dead-ball specialist Lee Mansell forced goalkeeper Sam Russell into a desperate save in conditions that were difficult for both sides following an early-morning downpour. Those conditions were perhaps best dealt with by Bristol Rovers pair Ollie Clarke and Mansell, who were firmly on top of their battle in the middle of the park, while, at the back, Neal Trotman and Tom Parkes were rarely troubled by the experienced Forest Green front pairing of Lee Hughes and Jon Parkin. Adam Cunnington was doing much better for Rovers at the other end when holding the ball up intelligently and bringing others in to play before suffering a thigh injury to bring a premature end to his afternoon at the start of the second half. The striker had been instrumental in providing the assist for Matt Taylor to bundle the ball home from clos-range in the 38th minute, before the celebrations were cut short by the linesman at the end of a particularly smart passing move that had been started by Lee Brown and David Martin down the left-hand side. Rovers started the second-half with much the same tempo and intensity of which they had ended the first and were unlucky not to edge in front when Trotman was only a matter of inches away from getting his head on a Martin’s far-post cross following a well-worked short corner in the 48th minute. Monkhouse did open the scoring soon when aiming a downward header up and over the flailing arm of Russell after connecting perfectly with Brown’s delivery towards the penalty spot. The wide man turned provider soon afterwards by swinging an inviting left-foot cross into the penalty area that looked like it would be converted from close-range off the head of Taylor before Russell came to the rescue with a flying save just after the hour mark. Had Rovers scored then it would probably have been game over and only a matter of minutes afterwards Forest Green were back on terms when Mildenhall was helpless to react after the direction of Kelly’s initial shot had been changed by Parkin’s unintended intervention inside the penalty area. Parkin should have doubled his tally when presented with a one-on-one opportunity, but could only poke his effort to finish wide of the post after Rovers were almost caught out by a rapier-like counter-attack led by Hughes. Rovers had probably earned that particular let-off and then almost nicked all three points in stoppage time when Mansell’s free-kick flew the wrong side of the post by inches after he curled the ball around the wall from the edge of the penalty area. Bristol Rovers (4-4-2): Mildenhall; Lockyer, Parkes, Trotman, Brown, Monkhouse, Mansell, Clarke, Martin (Sinclair, 77), Cunnington (Harrison, 48) Taylor (White, 83). Subs: Gosling, Puddy. Forest Green Rovers (4-4-2): Russell; Pipe, Oliver, Coles, Stokes; Sinclair (Norwood, 58) Kamdjo, Wedgbury, Frear (Kelly, 58); Parkin, Hughes (Rodgers, 81). Subs: Arnold, Oshodi.
Little big gutted to not of won considering how many chances we had but I would of took a point before the game so happy enough.
