I forgot what transfer speculation felt like.......

I'd take all of these three lads..... as a start.

    http://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/fo...le-Chelsea-Hull-and-QPR-stunning-TRIPLE-swoop

Hull defender James Chester, QPR hotshot Charlie Austin and Chelsea striker Patrick Bamford top their list of summer transfer targets.
Newcastle have yet to appoint a permanent head coach having avoided relegation on the final day of the season.
But in a major shift in policy, backed by owner Mike Ashley, the club will go on a summer spending spree targeting homegrown players rather than just plundering European leagues as they have done in recent years.

Current boss John Carver remains a contender for the job although he accepts that a disastrous run of results since taking temporary charge has severely damaged his chances.
Nevertheless he has already had a significant input into Newcastle's transfer policy, having told managing director Lee Charnley there needs to be a major overhaul if the club are to avoid another desperate relegation scrap.
Club sources insist it will be a close season of frenzied transfer activity with billionaire Ashley willing to spend a significant chunk of the £34m the club has in the bank.

Two months ago, the Toon hierarchy publicly apologised to Carver for leaving him short-handed failing to strengthen the squad during January's transfer window.
And they accept it needs to be bolstered with quality and quantity and want British players at the heart of the squad.
Several players are expected to leave including Sunday's goalscoring hero Jonas Gutierrez, Ryan Taylor and Sammy Ameobi who are all out of contract.
The club will not stand in the way if Moussa Sissoko decides to move on while others including Cheick Tiote, Papiss Cisse and Tim Krul are all considering their futures.
Newcastle will not turn their back on the Continental transfer market altogether though.
Anderlecht's Serbian striker Aleksandar Mitrovic and Marseilles winger Andre Ayew are two players understood to be on their way to the North East.

We need a good player maker and winger to make use of Austin. Otherwise we're just buying a 10m passenger.

That won't be enough to repair the damage of recent neglect.

£34 million will buy us some decent players, but it's going to take at least twice as much to build a competitive squad for next season. If the club really believe that £34 million is enough then sadly, Ashley's words on Sunday were pure lip service.

''Significant part of £34m''.. NUFC inc. also cost the wages for the entire contract into cost too I do believe, so at 40k a week every player in has an 'overhead wage cost' of £2mil per year ...no matter what other fees we pay (agent player transfer etc..eg 10players in minimum of 20 mil before anything else is spent)

So £34m is..barely adequate to repair the cumulative negligence shown over the last 4 yrs

Personally i would want a significant-ish portion (no real idea of the costs involved mind) of say 10-15% on paying for/hiring decent footballing staff.. HC/Coaches/Medical

Just cannot see how 30 odd million (shocking to say really with that level of money) is doing much apart from repair damage caused

(edit if Iam right re costing the entire contract for a player its approx £8mil per player (2 mil per yr for 4 yrs ) so thats 3 players in tops ...haven't a clue to be fair..too early. not enough coffee)

But they're saying spend £34m, is that NET? The problem we have is our net deficit of about £30m. We should have £34m in the bank, extra based on survival (another £20m) and a further £30m from the years of neglect. That's what Ashley/Charnley owe us.

Ashley should do the decent thing if he is serious and spend some of his own money now that FFP has been relaxed [granted, he doesn't have to and won't, but hey.]

Totally agree...but we all know IF he did, the money spent will just go on to the ever expanding loan he is holding over the clubs head ..

He's already declared war on Rangers so I think this 'new leaf' that he's apparently been smoking has something to do with his 'interview.'

Id take chester and brady from hull. The probably wouldn't cost us much at all. Chester in, Williamson out. Brady a replacement for sammy ameobi. 34m net spend wouldn't be too bad. Consider the dead weight we have at this club who are high earners. Obertan, Tiote, Saylor, Raylor, Anita and Gouff are probably on like 200k+ combined. That frees up a lot of wages. Plus we cut ben arfa, MYM, and Santon who all must've been top earners.

Personally I think we need another lb, push dummet to CB, pair him with the big lascelles at the very minimum. I don't really know what to think of our midfield. Colback is solid, Sissoko is fine in my book, we still have de jong, kemen, cabella. I think a solid midfielder is needed. Preferable english, Will Hughes perhaps. Forwards, we need a miracle here. The one player I would like us to buy is Bellarabi. Leverkusen always sell on the cheap. He would be amazing here.

I liked Perch though, that's the difference. Austin is one thing (I do consider him abit of **** and would leave us at the drop of a hat) but to buy relegated defenders I'm always suspect about. I'm sick of all this 'Buying British' bollocks as if it automatically makes them better. They were **** and went down and besides, we have enough **** British defenders as it is.
