http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/18260738 He says he will walk off if he gets racially abused. Good luck to him it is a very brave move. If he can get the rest of his team or every other black player to do the same. Maybe fifa will take note and start handing out some proper punishments for teams or countries whos fans act so badly.
It'll be interesting to see whether there is anything going off when we play Ukraine. I would love to see our team walk off if that started happening, but knowing UEFA they'd kick US out of the tournament...
If there was a shred of morality left every nation would have refused to play there when it was announced they were to host the tournament until they cleaned up their despicable act. Fat chance.
One thing's for sure: announcing the fact that you will walk off, if abused, guarantees that you WILL get abused. What a plonker!
I have noticed that UEFA or FIFA haven't even commented on the Panorama documentary, which is very worrying. I hope it's not because they have been found out. Personally, I think it would be great for teams to walk off the pitch at the first sign of any racial abuse. Let UEFA ban them. It will bring a major shift in football for the good of the game. It will also go a long way to highlight the awarding of the World Cup to Russia in 2018 ( expect more of the same. ) as opposed to England which not only had the infrastructure but the cultural diversity and tolerance which was needed to educate the backward Eastern Block countries as to the way forward in the modern game. Blatter and Platini... You've fecked it up me old China's.
I don't agree. He suffered a lot growing up with this crap. All that is needed for thugs to win is to stand by and do nothing. Good on you Mario - he's aware of the consequences of saying what he did
UEFA and FIFA wont care about the programme,Panorama did something similar before the voting for the 2018 world cup, highlighting the voting process, but they just rubbished it.
UEFA and FIFA pay lip-service to kicking racism out of the game. The fines imposed against countries whose fans have been guilty of racist chanting, banana-throwing etc are paltry and nothing of the sort that could be described as a deterrent. It will take a team such as England, France or Portugal who have many black and mixed ethnicity players in their teams to walk off and refuse to finish a game to humiliate the powers-that-be before anything is done about it. How are teams like Senegal, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Nigeria etc going to enjoy a World Cup in Russia, especially if they beat the host nation?...
FFS WHO GIVES A FLYING ****???? If they are so bothered about it, then retire from international football - some English fans do it as much as anyone else or should that be Liverpool fans?
Don't get me wrong, I don't condone any form of racism for a nano second and applaud anyone who stands up to it. But fans love to wind up players and I'm sure Mario's opposition would love to end up playing against 10 men. The danger for him is that he's made clear his intention rather too publicly and I fear he's going to get unwanted attention as a direct result.
Totally correct. The idiot has made a rod for his own back. Lets be honest, its no surprise its him that's come out with this. The bloke has form. Attention seeking is his game. He'd love it if a bunch of knuckle draggers in the crowd started bellowing insults at him. It would give him the stage he craves to do something outrageous.
He might actually be baiting them to highlight the issue which is exceptionally brave to basically say "I will be walking out on the Euros because of racism" - if he did it before the tournament then it wouldn't have half the impact. Of course, Blatter will say that they should all sort it out with a handshake but that's because his Qatari funded castle is impregnable and he's a total bell end.
