It is understood that Balotelli sustained the injury after he was required to jog in one warm-up session.
Italy's head physio stated: "Mario is not used to running, as soon as he started to jog, his hamstring tightened up and he tweaked it. The hamstring is like leaving an elastic band in the cold, for months, in an offside position; as soon as you try to expand it, it snaps".

Hope it's not too serious. He was improving as the games went on, albeit very slowly.

I wanted to see how Sturridge and Balotelli paired up together, I guess we'll have to wait longer for that now...

Great news - almost as good as when Johnson got injured.

And this doesn't make me a bad supporter, it makes me happy that Rodgers now has no choice but to play someone who'll put some effort in.

Before anybody puts the flags out, do we know how long he's out for?

Good point he may be back soon and all this celebrating would be pointless. :cheesy:

He shouldn't need injuries to help him pick his team.

No offence mate, but your post is a bang out of order. I'd never be pleased a player got injured, I can't get my head round the fact people are pleased. Like I said no offence to you, I've just noticed it from different posters over the years <ok>

If this is correct it could be any thing from three weeks to 4 months judging by others players with similar/same injuries.

With Torres and Gerrard groin injuries have been the enemy.
With Agger it was a back problem but I am guessing that was one constant problem that may have been unrelated to football. Back problems are very common in every occupation.

Why? He gets paid a sum I can't even comprehend to do **** all and he'll still get paid that much to sit on his arse and watch. Rodgers now can't pick him so we'll play better (I can almost guarantee that because Borini will offer movement which helps the midfielders) and unfortunately, he needs forcing to drop Mario - which he now has to.

Pleased a player is injured? I'm normally indifferent. People all over the world get injuries every day, some more serious that others, yet a footballer 'tweaks' a hamstring or something else and we should pity them. I couldn't really care less. They get paid a fortune, injuries come with the job.

I don't wish injuries on a player, but doesn't mean I can't think it can be seen as fortunate when we'll play better with him not in the team.

It's highly likely that he just wants a week off with his mates in Italy..... If he has any left.

Take the week of training and shoot off fireworks n play video games

The worst things about this news is BR might continue with 4 3 3 rather than going back to 4 4 2 diamond which suits our pressing far more

Also Balotellis poor start wont rectify itself obv and it goes on rather than getting a chance with Studge and to kick on from there

    Bad news this injury imo

Whats the betting when Marios back Studge gets injured

Never gonna happen, Rodgers will just play Studge as the lone forward instead.

Then, when Sturridge offers the same lack of enthusiasm in tracking back that Mario does (less usually) or gets absolutely s**t service from Glen Johnson and Joe Allen, we can have a thread where we celebrate him getting injured. Or do we only do that for Mario?

I'm actually really disappointed that fellow fans would be happy one of our players is out.

P.S, if you believe that Mario is even a significant cause of our problems then I don't know what games you're watching because he hasn't been the worst player, by far. In fact he's been alright, unless you believe the rags.

Not directed at you, more of everyone else.

You're crazy if you believe that.

Sturridge runs across the line or behind the defensive line because he wants 1v1 opportunities to score. That alone creates space for Sterling to run into, but it also gives Coutinho options to pass into. It's not all about service, it's doing something to get that service. Mario is rarely in the box, what is the point in passing it to him? He's standing 40yards out, still, waiting for the ball to feet before turning and shooting.

Mario and his lack of movement is a MAJOR part of our problems because our midfield are f**ing useless with no runners to aim for and no space ahead of them. He slows down our counter attacking play (ie, we have none), tightens their defense up, makes the pitch narrow and wastes possession in good positions. He's not been the worst player on occasion, but usually right about there. It's like Andy Carroll and how people praised him for a 'good game', but that good game was moving back a bit, chesting a long ball down or holding it up and laying it off whilst occasionally tracking back and winning a ball back. Brilliant. He's doing something better than normal, but that doesn't mean he's having a good game, just a better game but still miles below what I'd expect of a premier league striker.
