Can't see this as anything other than lazy journalism. But hey, it's always fun to read about the players were being linked to compared to a few years ago.

Michael Ballack set for a sensational return to west-London with Queens Park Rangers
    Jan 29th, 2012 @ 01:44 pm › Spencer J

Michael Ballack could be set for a sensational return to west-London with Queens Park Rangers.

The former Chelsea midfielder is out-of-contract at the end of the season at his current club Bayer Leverkusen and has been told he can leave before the window slams shut on Tuesday if a club makes a formal approach for him.

QPR are likely to be one of the busiest teams over the next few days as new manager Mark Hughes has money to spend in order to preserve their Premier League status. He has already brought in Nedum Onuoha from Manchester City and Tom Taiwo on loan from AC Milan but midfield and striker options are still be purchased by Hughes, who oversaw his injury-hit side’s 1-0 defeat to Chelsea in the FA Cup.

That performance was proof that they need strengthening in many areas as their squad currently isn’t quite good enough to be able to cope with the demands of the Premier League.

Ballack would add some vital steel to a midfield that is missing the creative and fiery talents of Alejandro Faurlin, who is out of the remainder of the season with a knee injury.

The former Germany captain decided to return to Leverkusen in 2010 after falling out of favour at Chelsea.

His form had been good last season but the German side are struggling this year and sit sixth in the league. Ballack has gone public with his feelings about the current men in charge at the club and is very much looking to move on to pastures new.

The three-time German Footballer of the Year would provide Hughes with a different dimension in midfield, but the move is depending on

I saw earlier today that he'd been put on the transfer list and thought about making a thread suggesting him would be good - and ta da, it's already a story

B*ll*ck's to Ballack. No way is this going to happen, or...?

Class player when at Bayern, good at Chelsea and they released him a year to early as they struggled badly after he left. Only 18 months since he was captain of Die Mannschaft, the worlds second best national side.

I even have a Bayern shirt with his name on it, so out of romance if nothing else I say take him <ok>

One of those Chelsea posters had his name in his handle until fairly recently and dropped it rather sharpish; why would he do that? Could be something in it after all...

Him and Livermore would be tasty in our central midfield - the youngster with a future learning from the maestro, and giving us a very solid 2 in the middle of our 4 man midfield.

At 34 surely it would have to be a pay as he plays type deal if it happened? If still fit enough, could do wonders for our midfield creativity...

Im sure this rumour is total nonsense. Ballack will never play at LR in blue and white hooped shirts.

He is not even playing for Leverkusen anymore and I guess he will not want to play for little money at LR.

I'm obviously the only one who thinks he's well, well passed his best then? Wouldn't want him tbh.

A tough one to call, yes he is past his best but he is an awesome competitor, I don't think he'd come to us for an easy ride, it's not in his make-up. If you need a wise head in our dangerous run-in he'd be an asset. He doesn't f*uck about with penalties either!...

See ManU are bigger the biggest favourites to land him.

Really? Blimey that's surprising Oslo, he must still be good enough then.
What's with this latest trend of bringing back older players?
Are the youngsters no longer to be trusted?

Well it wouldn't surprise me at all if Ballack went to ManU. They have a huge problems midfield compounded by many injuries. We are third favourites according to the same odds Norway posted. He'd be great for us rest of the season, but suppose he costs too much if he were even interested.
