Which of the two do you think would be the better key-striker for us next season?

  1. Bradley Wright-Phillips

  2. Sam Baldock

I know talk of signing Baldock is very premature and he probably won't be signing for us, but a great number of Charlton fans seem quite excited at the prospect of him joining, going as far as to suggest he could be a 20 goal a season striker.

So I've set up a poll...who would you be more comfortable with as our main striker (Yann's partner in a 4-4-2 or however you wish to see it).

For me it has to be BWP.

As good as Baldock seems to be, he is relatively untried. Whilst he scored a decent number for the Franchise last season and a fair few for Wet Spam, his stats don't really scream 'prolific goalscorer' (even if he mainly did make substitute appearances).

Balancing that against BWP's 40+ goals in the past two years, as well as the fact that he's our top scorer for 12 years, I think he really deserves to be given a chance to prove himself in The Championship after firing us into the league. Hopefully he'll prove his doubters wrong whilst he's at it.

Baldock for me, simply because if it is in the region of 1mil he'll be given more minutes thus hopefully get more chances, I have nothing against Brad even though I have said if we got decent money I would let him go, it's just, if improved his finishing or at least got it back to the start of this past season he'd be up there at the best again and be brilliant, but whenever I have seen Baldock he has impressed me, simply, if BWP can finish like he did at the start of this season, he will be the more key player, but if Baldock really costs 1mil he will have more minutes

I fully expect both of them to be at the club next season. Don't expect
either of them to be top goal scorer. Or key striker.

That will be down to Kermo. Hope people don't get on their backs when they don't score while playing out wide!

Baldock by a long way - his goalscoring record v BWP's would be hugely better.

I'd start with BWP. He deserves his chance to prove what he can do in the championship.

I do think that he needs some competition to keep him on his toes though.

Baldock would cost you £1.5m - alot to play for a back-up if BWP is given his chance

I can't see Baldock leaving for 1 mil, why would we take a loss when he has a few years on his contract, its not as if we're desperate.
Do you guys really think he will join you?

I think he would/is interested but I think we will be priced out of a move. He will go for somewhere between £1-1.5 million but I expect his wages are nearer the 10k a week figure.

A loan would be more realistic.

Cafc4E, Dr Chris said after the Bromley game that he thought two deals were done last week but they broke down late due to salary issues. The general thinking is that those deals were Baldock and Friend (from Donny)

One of my sources tells me that Simon Cox is on our radar. A £1.5 million bid and 20k per week wages are the carrots for West Brom and the player.

I am not BWP's biggest fan, but I do feel he deserves loyalty for his great efforts last season.

Anyway, I don't know enough about Baldock to really make comment.

£20k per week for Cox? are you sure PEA? I thought the problem with Baldock was that we couldn't get near his current £15K per week?

Since then i have heard that baldock wants to stay in London and will re evaluate his wage demands.

Swansea have just enquired about Cox. I thought a premiership side would make a move- a good player!

My source works for a red-top paper (I know, I know) and is sure we are/were in the hunt for Cox.

20k is the reported wage, but this is probably a way of getting better offers on the table to start with.
