I think this contains some info we were all wondering about with Sammys sell. theres more on player interview, maybe on you tube too. http://www.bcfc.co.uk/news/article/20140829-cotterillonbaldock-1884201.aspx
I feel a bit more relieved after hearing Cotterill's side of things, and that we received closer to £2m. I think we could have easily held out for more, but what's done is done. It could be a good bit of business if Agard does well for us. However, he's yet to play, and we've had plenty of other players from stronger leagues come in and do poorly for us. I guess we'll have to sit back and see how it goes.
Some will still complain but he was in his last year, no doubt he was offered a contract but refused to sign so it's a business and we got what we thought he was worth on those terms.
We accepted the 6th bid - a couple of years ago it would have been the 2nd - or worse the 1st in January!
I think we were behind the eight ball on Sam's deal and probably did as well as could be expected and did not allow the situation to turn in to another "you know who" scenario, so in retrospect we should probably put our cynical views behind us and move on.
Close to £2M is still a bit low for me, especially when Posh sold Assburglar to Florist for £5M, yes he may have had longer on his contract, but did we really push hard enough, I think a fee in the region of £2.5-3M would have been right, but we have been here before with our bungling board. When I saw the reports of £1m bring touted around, sad to say it didn't surprise me.
I think the valuation is about right. Good luck to Sam, but he wont set the Championship alight with loads of goals.
It's also hard when the player knows they are offering a 4 year contract on much more money. Credit to Sam that he acted in a very professional way.
