Darrell Clarke says Angelo Balanta has played himself right into the first-team picture following an impressive display in his first outing for Bristol Rovers. Balanta, who has been troubled by a calf problem since arriving at the Memorial Stadium at the beginning of September, showed an impressive array of touches, a fearsome shot and intelligent use of the ball when in possession in a 2-1 victory against Cinderford Town in the Gloucestershire Senior Challenge Cup. A lack of match fitness means Balanata, who can play up front or out wide, is expected to be utilised from the bench over the coming weeks, but Clarke said:

"We need to improve things around at the top end of the pitch and Angelo gives me a good option to do that, along with one or two other possible changes that are in the pipeline. We still need to work on his fitness levels, but he's certainly put himself right back in the first-team picture. I thought Angelo was impressive in spells of the game on Tuesday night and we have already seen at the training ground that he has a great touch and fantastic ability."

Assistant manager Marcus Stewart, who took charge of the side for the game on Tuesday night, added:

"I thought Angelo was brilliant. I didn't expect him to play for the full 90 minutes, but circumstances dictated that he had to and his fitness level was better than I thought it would be. Starting a league game may be a little too much for him at the moment because we have to remember that the game on Tuesday night was his first since pre-season. It would be tough for him if he were to start (at Chester) on Saturday, but he's certainly in our thoughts because he is a great asset to have on the bench. In terms of creativity, he has the ability to be a match-winner."

Looking forward to seeing Angelo in action - could be just what we need to rejuvenate our attacking options.
