Never to sure what to believe in the local papers, however, the KM is today reporting that we have not yet brought in the funds to splash the cash. http://www.kentonline.co.uk/kentonline/sport/2011/december/8/gills_cup_money.aspx? Surely this is no surprise, after so many new pre season signings, also having to bring in loan players, either due to injuries or to boost areas where there were weaknesses. Recent talks of contract negotiations never help, because it normally means that someone wants more for their services. We have to remember we are a League Two club, we have to live within our finances and to be honest I thought from the beginning of the season how are we managing it? Views...
brb Nothing new here. We've heard it before from Mr.Scally - as soon as he gets the whiff of 'unexpected' cash from cup games. I'm sure that's he's a shrewd enough businessman to get the most out of nothing -paying the least possible (for anything) -in looking to protect the financial future of the club, and he's probably right when he says that players need to be offloaded before others can be brought in. In an ideal situation it would be nice to use the extra cup money for new players - but like most other small clubs who get an unexpected windfall, Gillingham will see the money as a lifeline to appease the bank manager.
I think this shows that unless players are sold in January (possibly Rooney) then Kuffour won't be permanently signing until the summer...
My own personal take on the situation is that Kuffour is already in that player budget. Although what is not known is are the finances to buy him also included, hence trying to read between the lines is Kuffour already counted as part of the squad. As for the Rooney situation, I would not let him go to bring in another player. I think I read a report somewhere indicating his departure may not be until the summer (I'll try and find it), despite on going negotiations. I thought it was Hessy that was quoted as using words to this affect? Edit: Found the report, I refer to, see the last paragraph of Hessy's stated comment...http://www.kentnews.co.uk/sport/rooney_meets_gills_for_further_contract_talks_1_1146501?
