Hi, this is my first article posted but have been reading the articles for a while.

I was wondering what people think about Nicky Bailey coming back to the Valley for the first time since the play off penalty miss. How will people receive him? I am not sure whether to boo or gentle applause for him. Yes he left as fast as possible after he missed but he always worked hard for the team and the money we got for him helped us out. What are other peoples thoughts?

I spoke to him at Sparrows just after his transfer, the impression I got was that he wanted to stay and help us back into the Championship but he knew the Club needed the transfer money.

I hope he gets a good receiption :)

Welcome Fruitbat, I'm sure you were on 606 weren't you?

Welcome aboard fruitbat! I will welcome him back, definitely. I know from a family member of his how much he loved playing for CAFC - from the moment he signed and perceived us as a ''huge club'' to his final game where he was desperate to lead us up.

Also with his move, I think it's fair to point out that it was the club who needed the move to go through as quickly as possible. The guy loved the club, I really hope he gets the reception he deserves. One of my favourite players of the past decade.

Yes, I was on 606. For some reason my work computer would not let me on this site for a while?? I have enjoyed reading all the articles but felt compelled to do one for NB as I was surprised nobody had mentioned it. I too liked NB. Having read a few responses I will be giving him a nice welcome. I just hope someone in our midfield has the same guts and determination this weekend that he use to show to match up to him.

If I was there I'd applaud him and happily let him score a wonder goal as he did for us every now and then (as long as we still win) wonder if he'll celebrate if he scores? Hopefully he'd do like Parker did, if i remember rightly we were booing and calling him money grabbing (polite way of putting it) and then he scored that belter in front of the covered end didn't really celebrate in front of us, just ran towards the Newcastle fans and then back to the game, I gained so much respect for him then.

I would welcome him back warmly:
    (1) He always gave his all and was one of our better players throughout a terrible period for the club
    (2) We made a sizable profit on him which helped keep the club afloat
    (3) He left in an orderly, diplomatic and helpful way and continued to show affection and respect for us once he had gone

It was unfortunate that his last kick was that awful penalty, but better players than him have missed penalties and been forgiven. At least it wasn't a "Kermorgant".

He was out of the Boro team for a bit and I dreamed of his coming back, but he is well established there again so that won't happen. But he is exactly what we need in midfield now. Not the most cultured player in the world but a force at this level.

Well looks like my opinion is different to everyone else. I don't like him one bit, it's unlike me to take a dislike to someone but that he is one of the few. Lucky him. I for one will not be welcoming back but will be instead swearing at him under my breath when in my little box on Saturday..

    Spot on, eddie. <ok>

Many parallels between him and Andy Reid.

I'd have them both back like a shot. Preferably together.

I know he didn't want to leave Charlton because we had the same barber, just round the corner from his in-laws' family pub(the barber is a Palace fan BTW)

Nope not at all. Back in those days I was in the upper west, it surprises me that so many people think fondly of him and I think one of the recent ex cafc press guys is surprised of my feelings towards him. Maybe I'm being harsh but there were certain actions that I saw on the pitch that did not impress me in the slightest, he strikes me as someone who would mouth off to someone in the pub and then back off leaving his mates to clear up the mess.

These forums are meant for opinions and that is mine, many of my colleagues at Charlton Live are surprised for my hatred of him too. Is is a hatred? Yes it is. Though I would not be ne of those who would go up to hima and shout him abuse to his face, though he won't be getting any applause from me on Saturday.

    I loved Nicky Bailey.

Anyone remember that screamer at home to Wolves a few years back? Probably the best long range strike i've seen in the flesh.

A right foot like a traction engine, always put a shift in when he was played out on the left.

I didn't like his referee backchat, but that was one weakness of many strengths.

    Wasn't he a Pardew signing?

Fair play pup. I know he threw himself about a bit, looking for fouls and would shout off a lot- but having several interactions with him and his family I can't speak anything but highly of him. He genuinely loved the club, bought in to he fact we were a big club an was privileged to play for us.

But then I hate Hamer when I have the same argument for bailey. It's the beauty of football and differing opinions.

He was a pardew signing, Salford. And I know for fact that pardew fought tooth and nail to sign him.

    He did do some good!

I am with Paul on this one, can't stand him. Over rated as a player, only stood out because most of the others were dross on loan!

Through him self around like a young Ronaldo, rolled around like a dying seal then smiled when the ref booked someone. To be fair ran around a bit and scored the odd goal though.

No where near as talented as he, and others, would believe. If i was there on Saturday i would boo him.

Bailey scored far more goals from midfield (indeed, mostly from left-mid, not his best position) than most of our strikers did.

Fiery, feisty, a bit of a con-artist when it came to winning free kicks and getting others sent off, prone to mistakes that often led within seconds to us conceding, but 100% committed and proud to play for Charlton. You could see how much the penalty miss meant to him.

I would clap him if I were there on Saturday.
