GP2 series coordinator Bruno Michel also faced problems due to the Bahrain cancellation. Today he said: "We needed a week to find a place, make sure that it was properly organised and that we could do something good. So we finally chose Imola, and will go and race there for one event, which will be the last event for GP2 Asia and will replace the two events that were cancelled in Bahrain."

    What a briliant idea!

    And yet Bernie says:
“The FIA World Council will meet at the beginning of March and could look into the situation. I have already spoken with FIA President Jean Todt about the possibility of finding a new date and we both agreed that a decision has to be made before the season starts.

Realistically, the only sensible place to put the GP would be the summer break - but that would cause all sorts of problems for everyone. Placing it at any other time would result in three back to back races, and that's not really going to happen.

Why doesn't Bernie replace Bahrain with Imola?

I imagine the logistics of F1 are far greater than GP2, plus I'm sure Bernie is looking how to profit the most out of this :)

Imola is a great track but asian? lol What is wrong with Qatar, Japan, China, Malaysia, India and other good asian tracks for the asia series?

I would be all up for Imola replacing Borerain in F1 though

Unfortunately, as we all know, Bernie is money and power hungry, so he'll send F1 where the money is. This was the bad thing going to the Middle-East in F1-a lot of government problems have started there and it's having a big effect on F1.

Also, they will ave to make up the 20 races. We nearly saw Korea pull out last year, meaning we lose a race, and the drivers lose a bunch of points opportunities to win the championship/improve their position, so that all could lead to some a corrupt season result i.e it may favour those with engine reliability issues with less races, pushing them up the order

Well it was renamed the A1 ring because it was funded by the Phone operator A1 who sponsored Sauber at one point. Its only an advertisment
