Swansea City's Leon Britton 'suffers stress fracture in knee' By Danielle Joynson, Staff Reporter Filed: Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at 07:27 UK Last Updated: Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at 07:28 UK Swansea City midfielder Leon Britton is expected to be sidelined for a significant period of time after reportedly suffering a stress fracture in his knee. The 31-year-old was initially thought to have been given a one-month layoff due to a badly bruised bone. However, according to Wales Online, Britton has suffered a fracture and will not be able to undergo a scan for another three weeks. Britton signed a one-year contract extension earlier this summer.
Very disappointing for us and Leon although not surprising as his injury had sounded a bit concerning. Get well soon Leon. Hope we are not going to suffer a rerun of last season's injury toll, at least no Europe to cope with this year. Perhaps now is the time to reintegrate Canas (if we have not totally burned our bridges with him). I think he has much to offer in the Leon role and although not as accomplished as Leon yet has more to offer in some respects. He also has lots of energy and enthusiasm (gives 100% when he plays) and always seems like a happy and friendly team member to me. Think he has a lot to offer with no additional outlay or risk. Obstinacy should not stop us utilising our resources to the best effect.
I wouldn't be surprised to see Canas playing tonight , we're paying ,so play him.Unless someone comes in sharpish then he's still ours and will be until January
Read through few reports and am devastated. Not easy to overcome and the temptation is to rush back to normal with the aid of painkilling medication - which leads to longer recovery periods. As well as expert physic and medical support Leon will need lots of rest. 'Stress fractures are usually seen in athletes who increase their level of activity over a short period of time. The increased demand placed on the bone causes the bone to remodel and become stronger in the areas of higher stress. However, if the response of the bone cannot maintain the pace of the repetitive demands, a stress fracture may result. Stress fractures are almost always the result of increasing duration or intensity of an activity too quickly for the body to adapt.' Get well soon, Leon.
Didn't he say Leon would be back soon? Not sure. Maybe Monk is regretting falling out with Canas now. Time to pull out all the stops for Stambouli or mend some bridges, Gary.
Monk is quoted as saying Carroll is as good as Britton,so it looks as if the Stambouli/Cork deals are off and we're going with Carroll,an inexperienced player at this level, and IMO a huge gamble.
I wouldn't consider playing Canas, he is not good enough. He showed that last season and I am relieved we have brought in the Spurs youngster.
I heard a rumour in the ground last Saturday about Leon - from a guy who sits near us - and wondered if anyone else had heard anything? In case it is b******t, I'm not going to repeat it here.
So we are relieved we have signed a player we all know **** all about and have no idea he will be good enough for the PL. Hardly a replacement for Leon. We have to sign someone. An injury to Ki or Shelvey and we are right in the ****. How come our central midfield looks so light in numbers all of a sudden.
Was / is Canas as bad as posters make out ? imo wayward and no Leon but better than either Shelvey or Ki in that position , both who faded badly in the second half Saturday .We may get away with it tonight but going forward into the league I can't see Monk continuing with the same players for that position .
Canas performed as well as Leon if not better in many of the games he played. He is more mobile, and looks to play forward more than Leon who predominantly dishes the ball sideways or backwards. He has always given us 100% when on the field. Another player who does not deserve the disrespect he receives from too many ... IMO.
I'd like to see Carroll play tonight - I saw him a while back at Spurs and he looks to have lots of potential so it would be an ideal game for him.
