QPR boss Harry Redknapp has talked up the talents of former loanee Ravel Morrison in his new book, being serialised by the Daily Mail.

The England under-21 star is enjoying his third Championship loan spell in two years after failing to settle down and become a key man at West Ham, despite sparks of genius.

Redknapp has revealed that one inspirational chat with the youngster kicked him into action in a game last season and it was then that his talent became unquestionable.

Off field issues are still plaguing Morrison and his attitude on the pitch has also been questioned, and so Redknapp told him exactly that.

“Sir Alex Ferguson said he was the most naturally gifted player he had seen at Manchester United since Paul Scholes - and then sold him because he could do nothing with him,” Redknapp said.

“He’d been at West Ham, scored one of the goals of the season against Tottenham but they, too, found it hard to control him. He’d already had one loan spell at Birmingham City, but ended up with me.

“By the time we came to the end of the season, though, he couldn’t get in our starting line-up.

“There was one game last season when we’d lost confidence and were losing. I asked him to change his position, to play on the left. His face fell into a petulant pout.

‘I pulled him away from the rest, took him outside and explained as patiently as the time allowed. ‘Ravel, we are losing the f****** game,’ I said. ‘I just want you to play there and do a job for the team. We have to win the game. It’s not about you, OK? It’s about the team.

‘People look at your face in there when I’ve asked you to do something, and they will all go away and think you are a big-headed bastard, because your attitude stinks. That’s what people say about you.’

“Second half he was absolutely different class. He ran the game, everything good we did came from him and we were all watching it thinking: ‘‘What a talent’’. You looked at that performance and thought he could get us promoted on his own if he put his mind to it. It was like watching a player with Gareth Bale’s class in the Championship.”

We haven't seen this side to Rav yet, I hope he can keep his head clear and co-operate with everyone at the club.

Just read that in the Mail. I read Harry's first book a few months back. A great read for all footie fans and I'm sure the second will be the same with lots of insider stuff - as long as he doesn't give it all away in the Mail.

Back to the OP. As well as sorting out our fitness, formation, general attitude, style of play, the right people in midfield and more much more, it will be key for Russell to get the best out of Morrison, for all of us. We have seen glimpses of his ability and Russell has to ensure he performs at the top of his game week in and out.

To give him the opportunity to perform we need energy, bite and aggression from the supporting midfielders. Over to you Dikgacoi and Gunnar.

Looked to me he didn't like being taken off at Blackpool - he had his head down and barely acknowledged his replacement Le Fondre.

Mind you, I agree with his being a bit pissed off with getting the hook if not the fact that he displayed it - he shouldn't have been taken off by Young.

    Yep

Where the likes of Fergie/ Rednapp and the undoubted sports psychologists they threw at him couldnt turn him around, Noddy Holder may just do the job!

Morrison has talent but his ego is inversely proportional to his commitment, desire and work ethic. He will look back one day when his dosh is gone and solely think what could have been.

Anyways, good luck with the new boss and getting the season back on track <cheers>
