It's going to be interesting to see what Wenger does with Sagna in the summer, because as we know he only has one year left on his contract after this year, and the club have yet to offer him a new contract. This season has been tough for Sagna. Last season, he suffered two leg breaks, and at his age, it's hardly surprising that he has lost some of his pace, and without it, he has struggled to adjust his game. Many think we have a ready made replacement in Jenkinson, but he is only 21 years old, and is still learning. Ideally, you want someone with a bit more experience, but you can't doubt Jenkinson's talent and also his work ethic. For me, we should offer Sagna a two year deal, and hope that he stays. That way we have a very good back up, if Jenkinson struggles or gets injured. But problem is we always seem to sell one or two of our established players in the summer, and I fear that Sagna is heading for the exit door. Probably along with Vermaelen. I am sure there are plenty of teams who would want Sagna, and we might get a decent enough fee for him. But that would leave us with a 21 year old as our first choice right back, and then Hector Bellerin as the back up. Like with Rosicky, Wenger should bite the bullet, and offer Sagna a two year contract.
The lad cannot cross, which means he is not able to fulfill a vital part of teh role of a modern full-back. Defensively, I think he is far less prone to gaffs than the others, and does show some grit and determination and tenacity when needed, at times. I think there are other areas of the team/squad needing more urgent change/strengtheing.
One more year would be adequate. Loan out Bellerin & have Sagna play backup to Jenks next year. Failing that, I can see Sagna leaving & Bellerin being thrown in at the deep end. I can't see Arsenal offering him a 2 year deal when he has value this summer. I could see him staying & leaving for free next summer, but again, the Club may not allow it.
I'm with you on this one, personally I'm not sure we would get that much money for him, due to his age, contract situation and recent spate of injuries, so keeping him and losing him for free would be no big loss financially IMO.
Keep. Still a quality RB and a player with great experience. 2 year deal should be offered in the summer.
Keep. But if he wants to leave, we should do a 'Monreal' and buy a quality replacement and let the new arrival and Jenks duke it out for the starting spot.
Can't agree with that at all. Even against Reading he put in an excellent cross that Gervinho should have scored from.
