What you rekon lads? Cannot see him going on to smash records because players don't stay at the same club for donkeys years like they used to but this boy has got the lot
Hey Poolie, good to see you over here. Think Gyan could feature for the big guys...maybe that is the answer in itself.
At the moment, he shows glimpses of brilliance, he has to do that consistantly and score more goals before he's even half the striker SKP was for us.
If we can find him a partner up front who brings out his best qualities, we'll have quite a player on our hands. The team needs to be built around Gyan IMO.
he isnt the same kind of striker as SKP..... He will be more assists per season than goals IMO - especially in a 4-5-1 formation
So far, Babyjet looks the business - but it's early days mind! No doubt he's our premier striker and we do need a partner for him, but I'm cautious about building a team around ANY player. We've suffered with the Bent for cash deal and I have no wish to go through that again with no plan B ready to put into action. Hope he stays for a long time and becomes a legend. Would rather have a team with 3/4 strikers who can work together effectively because of injuries/suspensions..or tapping up.
Come on lads. No one cant beat Carsten Fredgaard, Lilian Laslandes, Andy Gray, Chris Brown, Kevin Kyle, Stephen Elliott, Jonathan Stead or the mighty Patrick M'boma. (Wow we have suffered) But yeah hes up there. Him, Quinn, Phillips and that other greedy lad. Probs the best 4 based on pure quality we've had
Very, very important point you've made there Rokerlad. I'm sure Bruce is well aware of the dangers of building a team around one player - hence bringing Gyan in to begin with. I think he'll want to add another string to the bow with future signings, but we'll probably have to wait til the summer for that. I'd guess any signings will be stop-gap, unless he really manages to pull one out of the bag
I don't think he'll be equal to some of the out-and-out strikers we've had - Trevor Ford, Charlie Fleming, Brian Clough, Billy Hughes, Marco Gabbiadini, Niall Quinn, Kevin Phillips or Darren Bent. They were absolute goal vultures. Asamoah's not that type of player. Mind you, he might easily prove to be the best all-round player of them all.
Never ever saw my old man cry, until he got the news that Cloughie was forced to retire through injury. He said then, we will never replace him. SKP may have come pretty close, but Gyan would have to go some to be up there with them.
Just over a year ago most Newcastle fans thought we had a brilliant geordie number 9 fallen into our laps. Carroll had just played for England and was looking like a quality, young Premiership striker who would lead our line for years. What a difference a day makes, let alone a year. I think both clubs are stronger now than they were Jan '11 though, so lets not worry.
