Seriously not a great interview from Ba, seems overly happy at joining Chelsea not a lot of class!

    http://www.itv.com/sport/football/article/2013-01-04/demba-ba-proud-to-sign-for-world-class-chelsea/

But he had no regrets today about his career path, revealing he had said to himself, "Yes I've done it", after being given permission to join Chelsea.

The Senegal star told the club's official website, www.chelseafc.com: "This club is at another level - it isn't West Ham or Newcastle.

"They are both big clubs with a strong history, but Chelsea is Chelsea and you cannot compare.

"It will be easier with world-class players around, who make the football look so easy."

He added: "Yesterday, I was looking back and smiling to myself, saying, 'Yes, I've done it'.

"I feel very proud, not only for me but the people who supported me over the years - my agent for instance who has been there since I was 15, my mum as well because when I skipped school she was afraid but today I am very proud for my family.

"I never lost belief in my football though, never. You keep working and things come. Rewards always come."

Ba insisted his move early in the window had given Newcastle plenty of time to recruit a replacement.

"It was important for me, and for Newcastle, to get my future sorted and now we can move on," he said.

"Now they have the whole month to buy someone and, for me as well, the sooner the better. Now I am here I just need to get settled in.

"When the club who won the Champions League wants you, the decision-making is very easy. This club is massive and that's something that helped the decision a lot. It was not a hard one."

Ba's transfer activity has led to him being branded a mercenary in some quarters, while there have also been concerns about a long-standing knee problem.

But Chelsea interim manager Rafael Benitez today shrugged off fears over the fitness and fidelity of the first signing of his reign.

Insisting there was no problem with his medical, Benitez added: "I think that he's a good professional.

"That is the information that we have and hopefully he will show this. I was talking with him about what I am expecting from him, and he was okay.

"Professional football is quite difficult and then the players move around, the managers move around.

"The main things for me were to be professional, to do the right things for your club and, this, I think everyone is expecting."

Benitez revealed one of the factors in signing Ba - who was playing in the lower reaches of French football just four-and-half years ago - over some of the other strikers Chelsea had considered was his recent pedigree in England.

The striker is joint third in the Premier League goalscoring table with 13 so far this season and Benitez said: "We were looking for a player who we could play right now because we have one game every three days.

"So we couldn't be waiting and I think that it's the kind of player in the Premier League who can do well from the first day."

That first day looks set to be tomorrow's FA Cup third-round trip to Southampton, with Benitez considering throwing his new signing straight in at the deep end.

Fernando Torres has started almost every game this season and Benitez is keen to rest his fellow Spaniard in the wake of Daniel Sturridge's move to Liverpool.

"With Sturridge leaving, Fernando as just the main striker was always a problem," said Benitez, who refused to comment on other potential arrivals.

"We have now a different option, a player that maybe can play even behind Fernando, maybe with Fernando, maybe on his own."

Benitez also claimed he was none the wiser as to when John Terry would be back in action, despite insisting his captain was "closer" to returning from his troublesome knee injury.

on an other note in a strange way im glad ba has left it might mean we play a proper 4-3-3 with acctual wingers instead of big fowards! well tht is if pardew comes to his senses and realises shola or cisse arnt wingers

    a team of

    ------------cisse-------------------
    -marv/remy-------------benny------
    -----cabs------------anita---------
    -----------tiote-------------------
    santon------------------debucy----
    ---------colo---saylor--------------
    -----------krul---------------------

would go back to what worked so well last season!

my thoughts exactly, he caused more problems than he solved, his greed has been one of our main downfalls as weird as that sounds but hes forced us into a kack formation which we dont have the players to fill, and in a way it looked like he was personally trying to erase cisse from the team

A little disrespectful, but I really hope he isn't greeted with boos when he returns to SJP with Chelsea, I'm just gonna remain silent.

If we Boo him it'll make it seem like we give too much of a **** about him, and booing a player normally makes him score against us. We need to make it look like him leaving isn't such a big deal.

I'm just gonna treat him like another player, and as another opponent that we need to try and deal with.

Yeah mate I agree the relief was there too see from cisse after he scored on Wednesday. I think we will see a different player now he's no winger. Just because Ba scored all the goals recently doesn't mean we're screws without him like you said playing him where Apparently he insisted on playing was too the detriment of the whole side I think

After he joined you I got slagged off when I said he'd be gone within 2 years to a bigger club, at the end of the day wouldn't you leave your job for double the wages and a chance for glory? He's gone from a team that's big in the NE of England where there are only 3 clubs to the European champions and World club runners up, he's a great player, as for class I think you lot are showing your class by slagging off someone who wants to further his career.

Interview seems fine to me, just excited to be at a massive club for the first time in his career, understandable. Wish the lad well, he was excellent for us.

Ba came here on a free and gave the team great service.
He has the chance to get a huge pay increase, a couple million lumper, play for the Euro champions, play for a team that plays champions league every year with a bunch of world class players. ffs who is going to turn that down to stay in a relegation fight and at a club that does not look like it will challenge for much anytime soon?
Speaks volumes when his own team mates at Newcastle are over the moon for him getting the move.

Everyone should be, as you say its just football and he has got himself a great move. Absolute no brainer for him. I hope we get more players like him who come in, put 100% in, do their job well and help us to progress. The big clubs wanted him because of how well he did, can't be a bad thing really. Just a shame other members of the team have failed to maintain their level of performance as he did.

He could have put things better for sure. I'm grateful for his efforts but hey-ho. He cost nowt.. Scored goals and got us £5m clear profit.
    Could have been worse.

as for slagging him off, i just think the way he's gone about this transfer has been a bit underhand, constantly tweeting how he wanted to stay only to go silent when the window rolls around, he's done a great job for us, but he caused alot of unrest and has seemed very selfish for the last few months

Probably cleared 3m, after the initial agent fees, and his 2.5m payment. Still great business after 29 in 54. Worked out well for everyone. Of course in an ideal world we'd have had no clause and been looking for 12m-15m. Unfortunately he'd have never been here without it.

He is a Judas and I shall boo him. (Unfortunately since I only get to 1-2 matches a year, I'll probably never see him live again).

I'm hardly being serious. I actually don't give a ****. Players come and go, it's just part of football. I do think ex-players ought to get booed at least once however, since it is part of the pantomime aspect of football.

Best off without players who aren't committed to our club. Can't say I wish him well, but his mercenary agents have a lot to answer for.
