Newcastle ace Demba Ba has no issue with historic past at the club and will not let that hinder him.

The Magpies are without their traditional number nine, which down the years has been their star player, from Jackie Milburn to Malcolm Macdonald to Alan Shearer and most recently Andy Carroll.

But the Senegalese star, who with four goals in his last two matches is proving a real threat for the club - is concentrating on his own game.

"I knew about the history here and the names of the past," he told the Chronicle.

"It does not daunt me. I am a striker so I want to score goals anyway.

"I'm the type of striker who likes to play and help out in other areas on the field.

"It is about all-round performances, not just goals and I want to contribute more in that way.

"I have been happy with my last two Premier League appearances, but the start of the season was not that good from me.

"I am just working and will continue to improve every week in training."

Meanwhile, Hatem Ben Arfa is back with the club after a spell of compassionate leave in his native Tunisia after a family member had been taken ill.

  4. It'll be interesting to see who finishes with a higher goals tally this season between Best and Ba.

See the 'My Eyes' article to show there is a surplus.

I like Ba. Seems to have his head on right and knows his first few games were below standard.

Be pretty close imo. If both stay fit then I would think Ba although he has the African Nations
